Hi Ian,
The statue of Lloyd George was presented to the town in 1921 by the then
Mayor, Owen Jones, J.P. who lived at Glan Beuno, Bontnewydd. A quick check
of the 1901 census reveals that he was indeed a Commercial Traveller and his
wife was Elizabeth. He was Mayor from 1919 to 1921.
Regards,
Keith.

Subject: [GWYNEDD] Owen Jones - Caernarfon
Dear list,
Someone has told me that my gt gt gt uncle, Owen Jones, presented the
statue of Lloyd George to Caernarfon. I wonder if anyone knows any more?
Owen, if the above is true, was born in 1835 in Penycaerau, Aberdaron, son
of Griff Jones, shopkeeper, and married Elizabeth Jones of Llwyndurus. He
lived in Port Dinorwid and, later, Caernarfon and was a commercial
traveller.
Yours,
Ian Thompson
