Gwynedd FHS.
Greetings from Southern Ontario where there is still lots of snow on
the ground!
I just joined this list and the very first item that I
received was on Llanberis , Llanrug and Cym y Glo! This is exactly
the area that interests me. A coincidence ? Perhaps.
My wife and I have booked a trip to North Wales and England
for the end of April and early May and we will be spending some time
in the Llanberis, Llanrug area. Yes, I have already booked our flight
but would not have if I had known that the hoof and mouth calamity
was as serious as it is. I had expected to do some hiking but now I
see I will have to concentrate on my genealogy.
On the 1881 Llanberis Census for Goodman Street
WILLIAM GRIFFITH , shoemaker is 55, from Llaniestyn, Caernarvon
Ellen Griffith, shoemaker's wife is 56 from Llanrug
Griffith Griffith, son, Slate quarrier, unmarried, 23, Llanrug
Catherine Griffith, Dau, General servant, unmarried, 21, Llanrug
John W. Griffith, Grand son, 9, Llanberis
Henry Parry, Grand son, 18 months, Llanberis
and also
Griffith Jones, boarder, shoemaker, 54, unmarried, Bodedern, Anglesey
Richard Morris, boarder, shoemaker, married, 47, Llanrug
On the 1851 Llanrug Census for Glan Llyn
WILLIAM GRIFFITH, shoemaker, 23, Llaniestyn
Ellen Griffith, wife, 25 , Llanrug
Is anyone able to fill in the period between 1851 and 1881
for me? What does the 1891 census show ?
Who are the parents of John W. Griffith and Henry Parry?
Bill, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada

>Llanberis is about 6 miles ESE (not WSW) of Caernarfon in North
>Wales. It has two main claims to fame: it was a center of the slate
>industry during the heyday, with the largest quarry - the Dinorwig
>quarry - now converted into a well known pumped storage
>hydroelectric power plant, the Dinorwig Power Station (also called
>Electric Mountain); it is also a center for tourism, rock climbing,
>and hikers as it is located at the northern base of Mount Snowdon,
>and is the site of the famous Snowdon Mountain Railway which takes
>tourists to the summit of Snowdon.
