Hello Listers,
My eyes are all fuzzy from looking for this one. I was considering
sending a question to the list asking if anyone knew where 'Maes y
Geirchan' is on an old map, and was it close to Llandegai?
When much to my surprise I spot a 'Maesgeirchen' on a modern map just
slightly n.w. of Llandegai. Would anyone be able to tell me if this
could be one and the same????
I now have further information that confirms my Francis WILLIAMS
connection to the John WILLIAMS family of Maes y Geirchan who lived
there in the early to mid 1800's. There are a lot of John Williams's
around and a few married to Margaret however, we've managed to narrow
this down. The given name 'Francis' surely helped.
The family is as follows:
Parents: John WILLIAMS of Bangor, Caernarfon and Margaret also of
Bangor
(no maiden name or marriage found yet)
Children:
- Jane baptised 1813
- Margaret baptised 1815
- Anne baptised 1817, buried 1819
- Francis baptised 1819
- Richard baptised 1820, buried 1824
- Ann baptised 1822
- Richard baptised 1824
- Ellen baptised 1826
- Mary baptised 1829
Hope someone can help me with Maes y Geirchan's location- and its
meaning? maes = field,
y = the, geirchan = ?
Happy hunting!
