I just received a marriage certificate , my first ,and two things I don't understand :
1. it has " Married in the Parish Church according to the rites and ceremonies of the Established Church "then a long blank space, "by me"
then underneath that is signed I. Williams Ellis because of the blank space I'm not sure if they were Married according to the rites of the Church of Wales or if the Church was used for one of the other denominations weddings, it was 1842.
2. the groom put in a fathers name as John Thomas Occ: collier . I had been told the father died when the groom was a small boy , now I don't know what to think or do.
I don't know what the customs in that time period was but the witness's were men, a Robert Lewis and David Jones . any advise most welcome .

FYI - -
The History Channel will feature a "Slate Valley" (New York/Vermont region) quarry and mill tour at the Evergreen Slate Company (www.evergreenslate.com) on Saturday, July 22nd at 11:30 a.m. (EST) on the "Back To The Blue Print" television series, a documentary in which The History Channel (www.historychannel.com) is following the complete restoration of a piece of property at Bear Mountain in New York State - including a slate roof restoration project. (Go to The History Channel website and search for "Back To The Blue Print.")
You are invited to enjoy the tour also by watching the program on your television - or set your video recorder to watch it at your leisure. Check out your local television guide for the channel airing The History Channel program.
Individuals having heritage to the New York/Vermont Slate Valley will find the program of interest in the process of helping one to have a better understanding of the labor involved in this industry which brought so many Italian, Welsh, Irish, Polish, English, French, Scottish and Slovakians to the New York/Vermont region to work throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
