Hello,
I am lookiing for any information about Abercaseg Farm in Bethesda. I know
that today it is a private dwelling rather than a farm. I believe that conoeing
etc goes on there.
I am interested in the origin of the name Abercaseg.
Many thanks

Thanks again the information. I'm in the process of planning a trip to the Lleyn to visit a number of churchyards. The list of places keeps growing but hopefully I'll have at least some success.

I have been informed today that these daysthe majority of burials from Abersoch take place at Capel Bwlch, [ CM chapel] Llanengan.
Good news is that the Gwynedd FHS have transcribed the memorial inscriptions of Capel Bwlch and St Engan church, Llanengan and are available from the publications secretary. See -

Hi Maggi,
Thanks for your quick reply.
Is there a Joseph W. WILLIAMS b. Dec. 1839 listed [birth per 1900
Granville, Washington Co., New York USA census, occupation:
restaruant?]. Sorry, I do not know in what town Joseph was born.
He and his wife, both single, immigrated with their families by 1850 to
the USA.
His wife, Mary JONES, was born 17 March 1845 in Machynlleth,
Montomgershire, North Wales, daughter of Rowland and Elizabeth EVANS
JONES, while her older siblings were born in Pennal, Merionethsire,
North Wales.
THANKS again,

Hello
It doesn't look like his birth was registered as there's no Joseph W. in
the GRO for Dec Q. 1837 or March Q 1838. Any clues as to father's
occupation? Do you think Joseph was born in Caernarfonshire? Regards
Maggi (Blythin)

Thanks your suggestion. The handwritten document did appear to say Abersoch but William & Eleanor Williams' only son Thomas was born in Pwllheli in 1805 and Abererch is quite near and so it might be worth a look. There were definitely family connections to Abererch. Thomas later moved to Llanengan where I have found the graves of several family members. I haven't found William & Eleanor's marriage yet and so I could try Abererch for that too. I'm hoping to get to Caernarvon Record Office some time in the near future and so I now have several leads to follow up. Thanks everyone.

Seeking town where Joseph W. WILLIAMS was born in Dec. 1837 in North
Wales, son of William and Elizabeth WILLIAMS.
He immigrated by 1850 to New York, U.S., married Mary JONES and worked
in a slate quarry. Family legend has that he was a poet published in
Welsh newspapers. He was my maternal 2 great grand uncle.
Names of children may have been
Lizzie [Eliza?] WILLIAMS,
John WILLIAMS,
Jane WILLIAMS,
Mary WILLIAMS,
Joseph Jr. WILLIAMS,
Edward WILLIAMS, and
Morfudd WILLIAMS, etc.

Hi Maggi
Thanks for replying to my request. I had a look at the Genuki Llanengan site which you suggested. I'm not really sure that it helped. Is the churchyard at Llanengan also known as Abersoch churchyard?

Hi Jane
Llanfor (parish) - Nantlleidiog (township) - Mer (Merionethshire County) - Park (dwelling). It doesn't say if he is or was a farmer so you can't really tell but I suspect that it is not one. Perhaps it was at one time.
Doreen & John.
Hamilton, Canada.
Thanks, Doreen, and John, for sending the information on Sarah Phillips in the 1841 census. I appreciate your doing this for me. Phillips seems to be an uncommon surname name in the north part of Wales so I'm especially happy that you found her. I think they must have stayed with the patronymic way of naming for quite some time.
Could you help me understand the Llanfor - Nantlleidiog, Mer, Park part? I gather the first is the parish, then ? , Merioneth and ? . I guess I'm wondering is Nantlleidiog the farm and, if so, what does the Park mean?
Thanks again,
Jane
For those who are uncertain about the layout of 1841 census and what all the
marks and abbreviations mean the latest entry on Gareth Hick's help page
might be an useful read:

If anyone has the 1841 census available for the Bala, Merionethshire area would they mind looking up Sarah Phillips (Philips). I believe she was living in Y Parc and was about 70/80 years of age. Is anyone else listed with her?

Can anyone help?
I have a handwritten note from some family documents which details the burial of two ancestors
William Williams & his wife Eleanor in 1808 aged 25 and 23 respectively. It includes the lines written on the tombstone and states that it is in Abersoch churchyard. Does anyone know where this churchyard is? I drove down to the area a few years ago but nobody could tell me.
The note also states that Eleanor was the second daughter of Hugh Jones of Tanrallt in the parish of Grich. Please can someone tell me where this parish is. I've not been able to find this either.

Hi Mark,
I telephoned my son in law who is much more familiar with this family than I
am and he tells me that Lily Davies is buried in the crem cemetery not
Glanadda and that her date of burial was 23rd? September 1974. The bonus
information is that either 3 or 4 members of the family are in the same
grave so if you are able to visit the grave you will be able to gather lots
of information for me. The other people in the grave are likely to be Ivor
Williams and Doris Williams. Lily was a Williams before she married.
If you no longer need to visit the cemetery for your own research do not
make a special visit on my behalf.
Happy burrowing,
Raymond
