Is there an address in Criccieth that I might write to request a search. I
am willing to pay for this service . . . . . . .
Hello Lynda
I'm afraid not; the records are held at the Archives in Caernarfon some 20
miles from Criccieth. You will find them at www.gwynedd.gov.uk/archives
However, before you get involved in the complexities of money changing, what
exactly are you looking for ? I'm sure there is someone on the list who can
answer your queries.
All the best,
Allen (Criccieth).

Lynda,
I haven't tried this firm yet and don't know if they do research in
Wales. However, it says they don't charge if they don't find something.
Here is the posting I saved.

Dear Allen
Is there an address in Criccieth that I might write to request a search. I
am willing to pay for this service. Do they have clerks in the Register
Office able to complete searches for fees?
Thanks Lynda from Canada

Hello Ceri
I have no connection (that I know of ) to this family.
Sorry for any confusion I may have raised. In your original posting you were

Hi,
Apologies for the delay in updating the site, but I have had a couple of weeks off to recharge the batteries, plus I have been contributing the odd item for a new bottle collecting website/forum that's recently come online. For anyone with an interest in old bottles the link is at the end of this message, although you do have to register to participate.
Anyway, the Carnarvon Alehouse Recognizances for 1798, 1799, & 1800 have been completed and can be seen in the Miscellaneous Section at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wlsccaer/
Regards,
Keith.

Hello Ceri
You don't say what you already know so I apologise if you aleady know this.
If you go to the Commonwealth War Graves Commision on www.cwgc.com and in
the search facility search Owen T H in 1916 you will find that Thomas was
killed on 1st March 1916 ( St Davids Day). He was the son of Mary Owen and
the late Hugh Owen of Ty Twr, Llanfairpwll. You will be able to see where he
was buried and details of that cemetery.
RWF Regimental Records show that he was killed in action.
Although there were no 'major' battles at this time a Major Dunn who was
with the 2nd RWF in the 115th Brigade,38th (Welsh) Division states of the
winter of 1915-16 that there were not even minor operations on their part of
the front but the guns on both sides were at times only less active than at
the height of the Loos engagement.Mining activity, too, continued with the
formation of crater after crater.
15th (Service) Battalion (1st London Welsh)
Formed at London, 20 October 1914. November 1914 : attached to 128th
Brigade, 43rd Division. 28 April 1915 : formation became the 113th Brigade,
38th Division. 27 February 1918 : disbanded in France.
Follow the link from 38th Division and you'll get to a site called
www.1914-18.net which is a mine of information about the WW1.
Insofar as helping you with Llanfairpwll etc. Possibly if you gave a
brief summary of how you're linked to this family and what you already know
then the list members will know how to help you.
Hope this helps.

Yo,
This is my first posting to this list. I have recently been given a copy of a letter written by Thomas H. Owen from A Company, 15 th R.W.F., B.E.F., France, on 3 rd Jan. 1916, to Mr. Thomas Owen, ( I cannot be sure of the Thomas as the green address label is the original, and the postmark obscures it ) of Pwllfanog, Llanfairpwll, Anglesey, North Wales.
The letter is headed " Anwyl Frawd ", and is obviously in Welsh. I would like to learn more of this branch of my family, and am hoping that someone can tell me of any aids that can help me with my research.
He says that the first thing that came to his mind when the Germans started shelling them was the hymn by Joseph Parry, " Dduw mawr ! pa beth a welaf draw ? Diwedd y braw i`r hollfyd ! "
Best wishes,
Ceri.
Many thanks,
Yes, I think these may be the ones.

Hello,
I am Dorothy and I concentrate on the "Direct Line" taking note of any info
that comes along.
I research from home using Census CDs, a print out can give a whole family,
also I back-up with BMD certificates.
The Llanengan family are:-
Owen Thomas born 1793 Llanengan
Lowri/Laura Jones b 1790 (his wife)
children John b 1819 and Jane bap 9/5/31.
I do not know if there were other children.
As is obvious I am now in the realm of Registers and would like to know what
is available and from where.
What can I get in the form of a print out from register entries and is the
record office the best place or the FHS, (I am a member of Gwynedd FHS) ??
best wishes to list members,
Dorothy.
