Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Apart from building the Marine Drive. He also had a bathing machine business
on llandudno beach. A famous painting of Llandudno by Sydney BEAUCHAMP
depicting a beach scene has bathing machine in the painting which reads
RICHARD HUGHES - LADIES BATHING MACHINE. This painting is now kept in
Yorkshire I believe.

Regina, First of all thank you very very much indeed for all of this
information, you are incredibly kind, it has taken me days to think things
through properly.
Is it possible for me to get full details on each person in each census at
all?
It is very coincidental if nothing else, probably too coincidental not to be
the same people throughout the Census dates. A couple of things are a little
puzzling, mainly surrounding dates of birth. Purely using the
Census Year - Age at census = Year of birth - formula
which I know isnt always 100% consistent due to the timing of the census
relative to the birthday.
On this basis, I can understand a 1 year difference in approx. birth dates.
But on some the difference is 2-4 years, however its such an amazingly
bizarre coincidence if the same named people seem to be having the same named
children all within a year or 2 and in the same states / countries of birth
dont you think.
On no occasion do places of birth contradict! and on all occasions birth
dates are within 2 years.
1880 - Family lived in Central City, Gilpin, CO, USA
1885 - Family lived in Gilpin, CO, USA
1900 - Family lived in Russell, Gulch, CO, USA (did Hugh have an occupation?)
1910 - Family lived in Gulch, CO, USA
1920 - Family lived in Russell, Gulch, CO, USA
1930 - Family lived in Russell, Gulch, CO, USA
The summary appears to be as follows, I have put stars by the anomalies:
Hugh HUGHES born in Wales to Welsh parents (Im hoping in Llandudno) between
1847, 1848 or Nov 1849***, a plasterer and mason, Married in 1870, Emigrated
to USA in 1871 and was naturalised, died between 1900 - 1910.
Amelia (wife of Hugh HUGHES) born in Wales to Welsh father and English
mother***, between 1848, 1849 or Jan 1851***, a housewife, Married in 1870,
Emigrated to USA in 1871 or 1873*** and was naturalised in 1883, living with
son Richard in 1910. died after 1920.
Richard HUGHES, born in England between 1869, 1870 , not sure of occupation,
Married in 1870, Emigrated to USA in 1871 and was naturalised in 1894, alive
in 1930 aged 61.
Elizabeth HUGHES (Possibly known as Bessie), born in England between 1870,
1871 in September, Married in 1900 to Mr JONES, Listed in 1900 with no
children and husband not at home.
William HUGHES, born in PA, USA between 1875, 1876, 1877 and 1878*** not sure
of occupation, Married in 1904 to Laura and had Annie HUGHES in 1904. Still
alive in 1930
John HUGHES, born in Jan 1881, 1882 or 1883*** in CO, still alive in 1930.
3 Other children look to have died young.
Annie HUGHES, born in 1904 to William and Laura.

I was scanning through Burial in Much Wenlock Parish, Shropshire yesterday
and came across the following burial:
26th March 1766, Samuel Jones from Anglesey
since they noted in the register that he wasn't local, I assumed he was in
the area visiting, travelling, or on business.
So if you are looking for Sam in Anglesey and getting frustrated I hope this
will be helpful.
Also if you know of other lists for Anglesey family history and think it
might be helpful I hope you will pass it on.
For what it's worth,

Subject: RE: [ANG] JOHN WILLIAMS, MASTER MARINER
Betty,
Could you please provide the web address for the Welsh Mariners, as I
would like to check my ancestor.
Thanks,
Kay Morris,

Researching Owen & Nathaniel MORRIS from Newborough, Anglesey
I can't link this up with anyone on the Welsh Mariners' website. The
nearest match is John Williams...
______________________________
At the time my master mariner JOHN WILLIAMS died (between the 1871and
1881 Amlwch census reports, he left a family in Amlwch--wife Mary
(Griffith), sons John G., William, and Thomas R. His only daughter was
my great grandmother (Mary Jane Williams Hughes, wife of George Morgan
Hughes of Amlwch). I have been thinking that my John Williams was the
master of the Truant lost at sea in Oct. 1874, but it appears that the
Truant John Williams in not mine. I am now trying to find information on
the 2nd will below, a John Williams who died at sea around 22nd March
1879. A friend in Wales visited the NLW and found these will entries,
and I am forwarding them here for anyone's information or advice.
>From the NLW - the index of wills and admons (letters of
administration)
The abstract reads:
16th September 1875: Administration of the effects of John Williams late
of
Brynglas in the parish of Llanfairmathafarneithaf in the County of
Anglesea,
Master of the Brig 'Truant' of Aberystwyth, who died on or since 29th
October 1874 at sea, was granted at Bangor to Ann Williams of Brynglas,
Widow, the Relict.
I then found what I think is the right one but, unfortunately, the
abstract
doesn't name the ship:
28th August 1800: The will of John Williams, late of Amlwch in the County
of
Anglesea, Master Mariner, who died on or since 22nd March 1879 at sea,
was
proved at the Principal Registry by Mary Williams of Amlwch, Widow, the
Relict, one of the executors.
I can't link this up with anyone on the Welsh Mariners' website. The
nearest
match is John Williams, born Llanddulas, Denbighshire in 1822, who was
drowned on the 26th March 1879 when his vessel was lost.

For Anyone researching Welsh in the USA or Welsh descendancy from the USA, a
group of us have started a list WELSH-IN-USA-L(a)rootsweb.com to aid research.
I also have a John Parry in Caernarfon, who is married to a Catherine.
His children were Sydney, christened on 20 August 1820, when he was a
servant; Margaret, christened 17 June 1823, when he was a mail guard; and
Richard, christened on 11 September 1825, when he was a postman, all at
Llanbeblig parish church.
John was buried on 1 October 1835 at Llanbeblig parish church, and was aged
43. (There is no memorial stone to him, but by checking the other John
Parrys buried between 1825 and 1841 at Llanbeblig, who do have memorial
inscriptions, whose wives are not called Catherine, it seems that this is
the right one).
Catherine Parry was a widow living in Green Gate Street Caernarfon in 1841,
and in 1851 she was living at Castle Street, and was a nurse, born 1786 in
Llandwrog. She was buried on February 1 1860 in Llanbeblig.
It might be that there is no connection, since I have no Owen, and Richard
seems to be born the same time as your Owen, but if the other details seem
familiar I would be interested to know.
