Is the Gwynedd Family History Society website still at:
www.gwynedd.fsbusiness.co.uk
I have been having trouble accessing it recently, and I am getting bad-link
reports to this address from my own website. Is it just a temporary hiccup or
is this link now dead?

Can anyone tell me where this was and where it is now, or what it's called now? There are a couple of little items on Google but they don't answer my question.
I have found this referred to in documents at the NLW & in the Rhagarol D.B as Maynol or "Manor of Maynol", or Maenol.
It appears that the church owned a lot of the land but there are also names of individuals. It also appears to cover several centuries.
Does anyone know? ? ?
Bonnie
Alun,
Regarding "Llanfairwghuhyn" being possibly LLanfair-yn-Neubwll:
I have a Jane Owen, born abt.1844 in "Bodedeyrn, Llanfair-yn-Newbwll& Cae'r
Ceilog, Anglesy, Wales, County Gwynedd". Her birth family included a brother
John & parents Watkins (b.1822) & Ann Owen. Watkins' parents are David Owen &
Jane Parry. I do not have info on John, or whether he had descendants.
Don't know if this data fits your tree or not, but I hope it is in some way
helpful.

Thanks for letting us know, Alwyn. I have seen some of Prof Griffiths'
pedigree charts from his earlier book "Achau ac Ewysiliau" and found them
very useful. I will certainly be buying a copy. Hopefully the GFHS and
Gwynedd Archives in Caernarfon will also be buying copies.

Many Family Historians in this part of the woods will be familiar with Ceri
Griffith's book "Achau ac Ewyllysiau Teuluoedd De Sir Gaernarfon". (The
Genealogy and Wills of South Caernarfonshire Families). The author has now published
a follow up volume.
"Achau rhai o deuluoedd hen siroedd Caernarfon, Meirionydd a Threfaldwyn"
(The Genealogy of some of the old families of Caernarfonshire, Merionethshire and
Montgomeryshire)
It is privately published by the Author
T. Ceiri Griffith, Gaerddu Fawr, Chwilog, Pwllheli. Gwynedd. LL53 6SY
Tel : 01766 810 371
The price including P & P is £31.50 from the UK (£40.50 USA & Canada and
£42.50 Australia & New Zealand)
The main contents of the book features some 256 family tree tables which
follow on from the first volume but which extend the research wider than the scope
of the original into whole of Caernarfonshire, Merionethshire and
Montgomeryshire.
It includes an index of houses, references to articles and details of some
300 wills which have been consulted in the research.
Only 1,000 copies have been printed and over 300 have been sold already, so
early ordering is advised.
Although the book is nominally in the Welsh Language, as the family tree
tables and the lists of Wills contain mainly names dates and addresses most of the
book will be accessible to those who do not speak Welsh.
I have no financial or other interest in this publication other than an
interest in its content as an aid to family history research in the area covered by
this list

Does anybody know if Environmental Health Officers, or anybody else in local
government, have complete lists of burial grounds and their whereabouts within
each county?
Almost weekly I get a letter or an e-mail asking me where such and such a
graveyard is, or where people who died in xxx are likely to be buried. It is
clearly the sort of information that would be useful to have on the internet.

Hello Listers,
Does any body know whether LLangwnadle Church records(Caernarvon ) have been transcribed any where? If not is there any way I can get information about them without visiting the church ?
I did visit last year to see my family graves( beautiful cemetary and Church) but the church records were out on loan somewhere.

Hi Margaret. Thankyou for your interest in my request. As Elizabeth Ann's
birth was about 1883 that is where I looked but to know avail. Can you inform me
if the 1889 birth in Caernarvon would cover Rhoscolyn, and what area does
Holyhead parish cover. Will check both the dates and areas out . Regards Alun.
Good evening . I am looking for please the birth of Elizabeth Ann Owen .
Father was Morris Owen mothers name was Jane[maiden name unknown] Morris was a
slate quarryman believe he came from Llandegai. According to the 1891 census
Elizabeth Ann was born 1883ish in Rhoscolyn. Jane was 8yrs older than Morris and
according to the 1891 census she also came from Rhoscolyn so assumming Morris
and Jane married about 1883. Any help offered to locate the birth of
Elizabeth Ann or the marriage of Morris and Jane would be very much appreciated .
Thankyou Alun.
Hello All,
Whilst going through the Index to the Register of Deaths for the Sub-District of Talyllyn, I came across 6 entries for 'unknown males'. There are 2 on one page and 4 on the following page, so I suspect they might be linked. The register covers the period April 1913 to November 1919. The page numbers would put the deaths towards the end of the period. I am intrigued. was there a known local disaster? Can anybody through light on these entries?

Hello list
Just back from trip to Wales for one week to visit family. Had planned trip
to what I thought was Conwy Archive Service but really was Registrars
Office...which moved last Friday to Llandudno Town Hall...and I went on their first day
(Monday) so was hectic, wedding at 11:30 etc...so looked up about 1/3 of what
I wanted to but 1/3 is better than nothing....
Please explain the Archive Office to me...where are they located? What to
they have in the Archives that the Registrar does not. Registrars office has
births, marriages and deaths for the old Gwynedd county (basically). I got to look
at the old indexes. Registrar, Dave Rees (he's an old family friend) and his
wonderful deputy, Hayden, showed me the old index booklets and then the actual
registers in the vault. Quite a performance to look for a record. They were
very helpful. The Registrar is the one who will by mail, send you a copy of the
entry (certificate) for UK pounds 7.
He also told me that Gwynedd Family History Society came recently to
photocopy all the indexes and will put them on line. Maybe this is the North Wales
Free BMD Web page.
I also visited the new vicar of Dwygyfylchi and Penmaenmawr who has a
photocopied book of the registers for Dwygyfylchi for about 1820 - 1870.
Unfortunately of no help to me...more brick walls. I also tramped round the Dwygyfylchi
Cemetary last Saturday afternoon but is overgrown, many headstones facing down
on the ground, and many small old ones with worn-away inscriptions. But was
good to be there.
I also drove round Anglesey, taking my mother for a drive, and we stopped at
Amlwch and Rhos-y-Bol (I'd not been to Rhos-y-Bol before) and to get there,
about 2 miles from Amlwch, drove sort of over the top of Parys Mountain, where
ancestors had mined for copper. Took photos of the churches in Rhos-y-Bol for
my 4th cousin here in the USA. (more soon, Marilyn!)
Wales was mild, a little wet and windy but beautiful all the same... can't
wait to return....Hiraeth remains.......

Hi Margaret
Sorry, there are no MIs listed for your folks in the part of Llandegai that
has been recorded, but remember there were other churchyards in the parish
by the mid-19th century including Tregarth (St Mary's), Tanysgafell, and at
St.Anne's. It depended mainly on where people lived. There were 12
graveyards in the area covered by the two parishes of Llandegai and
Llanllechid, the area generally known as Dyffryn Ogwen, centred on the slate
quarrying town of Bethesda.
Do you have the marriage of Wm. & Mary Hughes? There are four Wm.& Marys in
the GFHS Marriage Index which might fit.
Regards,
David

Hi David
I'm hoping you will be able to check the MIs for my 2x & 3x Ggrandparents.
Hopefully they are in the older section covered.
William & Mary Hughes, both age 66 according to the 1851 census. Don't
appear in 1861, so probably died between 1851 & 61.
Hugh & Margaret Hughes, Hugh died between 1881 & 91, he was 60 in 1881.
Margaret died between 1891 & 1901, her age varies from census to census. In
1881 she was 61 & in 1891, 74.
Thanks for the offer of lookups.
Best wishes
Margaret
