Dear list,
I wonder if one of the listers would be kind enough to have a look at the
census for Llanycil for a William Roberts (of Cynythog Ganol in 1901) who
was b ca 1832/33. His wife was Janet (?Janett Jones who marr a William
Roberts in Bala in the 2nd quarter of 1869). He was my gt gt gt
grandfather.
Additionally, does anyone know where Cynythog Ganol is? My mother remembers
a Cynythog Bach in Llidiardau. Are they one and the same or neighbouring
farms?
My gt gandfather's father, John Thomas, was from Cloddiau, Llidiardau.
Thanks in anticipation for any help or information. I can do reciprocal
searches in Sussex censuses in Brighton.
Yours,
Ian Thompson

I am trying to trace the ancestry of John Hughes of Cae Haidd Mawr, Llandwrog, who was christened at Llandwrog in 1714 the son of William Hughes and Elizabeth Enoch. William and Elizabeth married in October 1714 and he was described as of Llanfihangel Bachellaeth, while she was of Llandwrog.
Elizabeth was christened in 1688 in Llandwrog the daughter of Enoch Thomas and Ellin Griffith
I am seeking any information about Gaenor Williams and her father Ellis Williams who died at Cae Haidd Mawr in 1767.
Gaenor died on 13 April, and was buried at Llandwrog parish cemetery on 17 April 1767. According to the parish register her age was 36, but the gravestone gives her age as 40, but a search in the parish registers of Llandwrog and Clynnog around 1727-31 give no christenings of any Gaenors, daughter of Ellis Williams, and Llanllyfni registers at Caernarfon only start in 1744. (However I have noticed that Gaenor and Ellis seem to be fairly common names in that part of Wales, which would suggest them being local to that area).
Her father, Ellis also died at Cae Haidd Mawr, and was said to be a widower, aged 75 and was buried at Llandwrog on September 20 1767, so he would have been born around 1692.
Gaenor married a John Hughes on 30 December 1748, and they lived at Cae Haidd Mawr from 1754 when place names started to be given in the parish registers.
Can anyone assist me?
I have a birth certificate showing parent's names,
on looking up the Free BMD site I found what I thought to be the marriage of
the parents, if so, the man was a widower, having two older children.
This is the entry:-
Marriages Jun 1842
JONES Elizabeth.Llanfyllin 27 109davidcheek
OWENS Thomas " " " hcrowe
The certificate I received was as follows:-
Elizabeth Jones & Thomas Owens (widower)
Married July 1851 Llanfyllin No 109
My query is that here we have same names, parish, number and a widower, but
the date is nine years later.
The differences are ages and occupation.
Does anyone have an explanation?
I will be grateful for any help.
I must add that the registrar at Welshpool has been very helpful, but unable
to find the 1842 marriage.
Dorothy.

Dear list,
Using the wonderful 1901 census online (no one was saying that 6 months
ago!) I have found my great grandfather John William THOMAS aged 2 months in
the farm Cynythog Ganol, Llanycil (Bala). His father was John THOMAS farmer
of Cloddiau, Llidiardau, mother Margaret THOMAS nee ROBERTS.
He is living with his maternal grandfather William ROBERTS aged 68 ie b ca
1832 and wife Janet ROBERTS aged 64.
I wonder if anyone on the list has any connection or can offer any further
information? I am relatively a novice in Merionethshire as I have
concentrated more on my mother's family in Lleyn the GOODMANs.
Yours,
Ian Thompson

Hi, Yes we can buy Flats over here and renting isn't quite so popular now
as it was back in the 30s to 50s. You buy your Flat and each person pays
their own Gas and Electricity and usually has a sum that each owner has to
pay for maintainance of the building.
Surrey is a very expensive County as it is near to London. the price of
property is so high in the Capitol that Blocks of Flats were built some
years ago to take the bulk of people who wanted to live and work in and
around the City. £146,000 is quite cheap now for a Flat in London
and it is getting like that in most places in the south now. Nadine
In the 1851 census Catherine Parry, widow, aged 66, lived at Castle Street,
and was described as a nurse. I am aware that the Workhouse, which opened in
1845, had an infirmary. Did she work for the Workhouse infirmary? Or was the
term "nurse" in this case a bit looser, and might stand for midwife or
something similar?
I have just discovered that people in the U.K. buy flats/apartments.
Here in the U.S. generally we buy houses but rent apartments, paying a
monthly rental. How does this work in the U.K.? If you buy an apartment
in a building with other tenants, who pays for the heat? Plumbing
repairs? I was astounded by the below quote from an e-mail message
from London:
"Gwen's flat in Surrey was incredibly expensive - 146,000 pounds for a
two-bedroomed ground floor flat which needs a lot of work."
Betty Pace - Virginia, U.S.A.
To All of Linda's friends and family,
A lot of Linda's friends are writing to me to find out what caused Linda's passing, So, I will explain it to all in one e-mail so all will know, as I know all of you loved her just like we did.
Starting late last Thursday Linda told me she thought she was coming down with something, maybe the flu, she felt week and seemed to have all the flu signs, I asked her if she would like for me to take her to the Doctor, if you know Linda, well, she said NO. She was on a great deal of Medication for several medical problems she had to deal with since 1985, on Friday I fixed her some chicken soup and she ate a little of it, Linda was not a big eater at all and only sipped on the soup and didn't finish it, well, I kept an eye on her not leaving the house because I knew she needed me to assist her with her needs because she was weak, on Saturday I looked at her and thought she should see a Doctor, I asked her if I could take her to an Emergency Room just to be on the safe side, she again refused to go, she said she would not go to see any Doctor. so, later in the day on Saturday I called my step-sister who is a nurse to come over and to take her blood pressure and pulse, she c!
ame over right away and took the blood pressure and pulse , she said it was with-in normal limits, she asked Linda if she would go to the Emergency Room to be checked anyway, again Linda said no, she said she only had a bug and it was no big deal. they talked for about a half hour and my step sister told me to go to the store and get Linda some clear liquids for her to drink and told Linda that on Monday Morning she should go to see her Doctor first thing, she said ok.
I went down to the store and picked up some seven up for her, fixed it for her and she started drinking it instead of other drinks, at about 12:30AM I told Linda I was going to lie down and get some sleep, if she needed me to wake me and I would assist her with anything she wanted, she was sitting in a very large lounge recliner chair that is her chair, I kissed her and gave her a hug and went on to bed , At about 3:00AM Linda woke me and asked me to renew her seven up, I got up and fixed her a new drink,, I took one look at her and said you are going to the Emergency Room and that's it, she didn't argue with me, she said ok, I changed into my street clothes, came out and changed her top, washed her up so she would be clean and helped her up, we started walking towards the front door at a very slow pace as she was very weak, and after about six feet she collapsed on the carpet. I called my step sister and told her to call 911 and to come over right away that Linda wasn't d!
oing well, I finally got her out on to the carport and laid her on a large beach towel, and started CPR as I couldn't get a pulse, My step sister was here with-in five minutes, she assisted me with the CPR until the Emergency Personnel arrived and took over the care of Linda.
With-in a few short minutes they were off to the Emergency Room with me following, We arrived at the Hospital at the same time, I went in and registered Linda with the desk, after about thirty minutes or so the Doctor came out and took me into a quiet room, He said I am sorry to have to tell you that your wife has passed away, there was nothing we could do for her. He further stated that in his opinion she had a slow bleeding ulcer for a while and wasn't aware of it and it had broken loose and bleeding was what caused her death and that he was sure she was not aware of it at all, the Doctor said he had reviewed the Medical Chart and saw what a huge amount of Medication she was on and he feels that the medication caused the ulcer, so that is what caused my Linda to pass away.
The Doctor let me go into the treatment room to stay with Linda as long as I wanted, I spent about thirty minutes with her and then left for home to call all our family to break the very sad news.
I am sure that you all will view the Funeral Home Web Site www.robertsfuneralhomes.com and see how much Linda was loved by everyone she knew, Linda was everything to me and I was everything to her, I will always love her until we are together again,
God Bless you all for caring and loving Linda, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Daughter and Friend to all she knew.

A huge "thank-you" to all the Gwynedd and Clwyd hard-working volunteers for
an excellent Fair yesterday. Looking forward to the next one already!
As soon as the date is decided, can it be announced on the lists so that we
can all make a note in our 2003 Forward Planner in plenty of time?
Thanks,
Enid. (Ffestiniog).
Thanks for your reply. You had earlier sent me the passenger list for the
Manifest Enlarger, the ship your Maggie sailed on. The place names on it are
Maggie's last permanent place of residence, Betws-y-Coed, which was then in
Caernarfonshire, and her brother's address, Glan yr Afon, Cwm y Glo, also in
Caernarfonshire. It might well be worth subscribing to the Caernarfonshire
list at WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE-L-request(a)rootsweb.com.
