Certainly the houses were known as Morfa and they were adjacent to the beach
in Llandudno, they were the houses built over night under an ancient welsh
law, they disappeared with the enclosure act of i think 1847.
Mark HUGHES.
Hello,
I am in need of your help in finding a family in the 1871 census and I hope I am writing to the right place. The surname is "Jones" and they were all born in Wales but ended up in England according to the 1881 census .
The 1881 census read as follows:
Dwelling: 17 Beech Rd.
Census place: Tranmere, Cheshire, England
John Jones age 61 (head) born in Pwllheli, Wales occupation:> Ship carpenter.
Anne Jones age 64.(wife) born in Tanyrallt, Conway, Wales
Margaret A. Jones age 32 (daughter) born in Eglwysbach, Conway Wales
John Jones age 31 (son) born in Llansantffraid, Conway, Wales
Eliza Jones age 23 (daughter) born in Rhyll, Wales.
---------------------------------------------
If this is the family that I am looking for, there should be one more "son" listed in the 1871 census and his name would be Owen Jones... born in 1845 in "Caernarvon County of Caernarvonshire" (I think) but I know Wales is right for sure...
I do hope someone can help me get a copy of the 1871's . I live in Canada and I am having a very difficult time with this long distance search for my family. Looking forward to your replies. .Thank you in advance.

Dear Listers,
I am writing as a follow-up to the discussion last
Saturday about an
error in the PARLOC [parish locator] computer program.
After reporting the error to Dave Bennett, the
program's author, I
received a reply (copied below) which indicates that a
new corrected
version (version 2.3) is now available. I assume it
can be downloaded
from http://www.dmbennett.freeserve.co.uk/ParLoc.htm
Kind regards,

John,
Many thanks for you note. I'm sorry for the delay but
I've been away.
You are quite right this error was pointed out to me
in March just
after
ver 2.2 was
released, but I'm afraid that I'm a bit behind with
the corrections
page.
I have just posted ver 2.3 which includes this and
many other
corrections.

very kind words, I may do that one day, I am currently working on a little
book for the village where I live called Caldy on the Wirral, which I have
been working on for 2 years. My gt gt gt grandfathers book was published on
Llandudno in the 1940s, however he did have an unpublished book which has
been passed on to me, most of the facts in the book are written in many other
books on the town, but I thought it would be nice to add to that book and
have a book published which was written by 2 members of the same family
started in 1943 by him and finished in say 2005 by me!
Would be quite novel (ha ha)
Thanks for the email.

Dear Mark
I am afraid I don't know about Morfa although I have seen the name when I
went to Llandudno over the various years.
However, when I was there two years ago I bought a little history book about
the town. Again nothing about your Morfa but the man who wrote it, Michael
Senior, seemed very knowledgeable and if you got in touch with his printer, I
think Michael could probably tell you a lot about it.

their involvement with the building of Llandudno in a little book. I am
sure people would find it interesting.

I am seeking information about the family Elizabeth Owen (1788-1870), who was born at Clegyrog Uchaf Llanbadrig the daughter of William Owen and Catherine Williams or Parry. She was christened in 1788 at Llanbadrig Parish church. She had an elder sister born 1783, also at Clegyrog, and in the christening entry her mother is described as Catherine Parry.
On 11 December 1812 Elizabeth married David Owen at Llanbadrig. David was said to be of Llanfechell, and neither could sign. David was born at Bryn Pistill, Llanfechell in 1785 the son of Owen Jones and Anne. He had sisters Catherine (1779) and Elizabeth (1782) both christened at Llanbadrig, and another sister Mary born 1790 at Porth Pistill, Llanfechell.
In 1823 David and Elizabeth had a son Owen Owen born 1823, and Thomas Owen born 14 November 1823, and christened 7 January 1824 at Horeb CM chapel, Rhosybol. David was then a farm labourer living at Tyn Rhosydd, Llandyfrydog, as he was in 1827. Their other children included Mary Owen, born 1827, and Elizabeth Owen born 1832.
In 1851 they lived in Gydrhos, Llandyfrydog, and David died in 1861 at Tyddyn Llwyd, Llandyfrydog. Elizabeth died on 14 March 1870 and was buried at Llandyfrydog parish church.

Thanks all, the translation certainly seems to fit into family folklore - we've always had stories about how the family used to be well off and lived in a big house. Perhaps Ty Isa was the house after the 'big house' :)
