Do any of our listers have access to the 1871 census for Conway ? I am looking for the occupants of the Crown Inn, Crown Lane/ High Street, Conway in the 1871 census.
I am searching for my gt.gt.grandmother GRACE JONES, she was at Crown Inn, Crown Lane, Conway in 1861. She was head of household, Widow, 39 and had two sons, JOHN aged 5 and THOMAS (my gt.grandfather) aged 3, all born Conway. They had a servant JANE ROBERTS aged 26, born Caerhun.
At the 1881 census Grace had moved to Tan Y Braich, Caerhun where she was a farmer (of 19 Acres Employing 1 man), aged 60, Widow, but now born Llanbedr and living with her grandson ROBERT OWEN aged 8, born Llanfairfechan, and THOMAS OWEN, Farm Servant (indoor), aged 17 and born Carnarvon (sic) Town.
Where was she in 1871 ?
Also how could she have a grandson, named OWEN, aged 8, when she only had two sons named JONES ? Do I have the right Grace Jones ? Can anyone help ? I'm struggling !!!
Keith.

Hello listers. I have just joined the list to check whether anyone may have connections to a WINIFRED EDWARDS born abt 1796 in Dolgellau, Merioneth. Also there was a marriage between Winifred and JOHN CHARNOCK (cooper) abt 1809 which may have taken place in Dolgellau. Is there an index of marriages for that period available?
.Thank you. Helen Harris

Hello everyone,
I tried to send this message to Colin Roberts in Australia in reply to a
message he left on the Gwynedd FHS website guestbook, but it bounced.
Does anyone out there have an email address for Colin?

Hello Colin,
I have an ancestor Ann Roberts who was born at Ty'n y Nant, Cynwyd Fawr,
Gwyddelwern in 1812. However I have found that there were several places
in Gwyddelwern with names such as Ty Nant, Ty'n y Nant etc, so it may be
that your Roberts was not at the same one - you would need to know which
township it was in. I found a Thomas Roberts who I believe is my Ann's
brother at one of the Ty'n y Nants in the 1841 Census, but by 1851 he
had moved to Corwen and in 1881 he was retired in Llangollen. Thomas was
the only son of this family as far as I know. He had two sons, both born
at "Ty Nant", John (b 1833/4) and Richard (b 1840). I wonder if this
John could be the father of your John Roberts? Have you found out any
more?
Best wishes,
Ann

Thanks to those who have written to me on and off list regarding this topic.
I received this suggestion through the Listowners of England and Wales
Rootsweb List, and have passed it on to the list for individuals to make
their own decision regarding observing or ignoring the suggestion. I do not
know what is happening on other lists and I do not wish to become involved in
discussions on or off list about the propriety of observing the period of
silence or not.
Regarding different time zones I understand that it will be 5 am in New York
at 10 am in London a full list of international time comparisons can be
worked out by this URL:

Alwyn,
It would be helpful if you could post what 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. converts to in
U.S. time so we may also observe the period of "list silence" as our mark of
respect for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Thank you.

The funeral is at 11:30am, on April 9th 2002, followed by committal in St
George's chapel, Windsor. The propose period of silence would be 10am - 4pm
(British Summer Time).
The observance of the period of silence is, of course, voluntary. The list
will not be "shut down" during the period. I would ask that list members
respect the choice of those who choose either to observe or to ignore the
period of silence and not to make an individual's choice the subject of on,

Dear Einir
That is OK. It is because you belong to a list and once your letter is
received it is then sent out to every member of the list including you.
We all get copies of our own letters.

This is not a fault, it is part of the way that e-mail lists work
When you send a message to the list, it goes to Rootsweb's computer in Utah.
Rootsweb's computer then forwards it to every e-mail address that it has
recorded as a member of the list, as you are one of the members of the list
it sends a copy to your e-mail address too.
This can be quite useful, because if you don't see a copy of your letter
within half an hour or so of sending it, then you know that there may have
been a problem with distributing it, and you can get in touch with the list
administrator to find out what the problem is.

Hi Listers,
I have just obtained a copy of the marriage certificate of the above couple,
my paternal great grandparents. However it is not at all clear and I would
like SKS to look at the original register for me if that is possible.
The information I can decipher is:-
Date November 15th 1856
John Price Age 29
Jane Thomas Age 29
John Price's occupation Shoemaker.
Marriage registered in Conway registration district.
I cannot make out the following:-
Name of the Parish,
Bride's residence
Bride's father's name,
Bride's father's occupation.
Hope someone can help
regards
John Price
