I have collected the following information about William Williams' and
his descendants (mid 1800's to mid 1900's) of Anglesey and Bangor. Does
this family tree look familiar to anyone? I am interested in learning
about William's wife and their ancestors. All the best. Don Baker,
Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
William (Hugh?) Williams, farm labourer, married Ellen (Jones?) (who
died in 1922 or 23). Ellen or William is buried at Elim Chapel,
Llanddeusant. William may have lived in Ty Mawr before Llanddeusant.
Their seven children were raised in Llanddeusant until shortly after
Williams death. Ellen then moved family to Holyhead.
· Mary Williams (1869 August 12, 1928; buried at Holyhead) moved to
Liverpool and married James (Jim) Watt, a Scottish policeman. Raised
nephew, Cyril Williams, the youngest surviving son of William Williams
(II).
· Hugh Williams (1869 June 13, 1930; buried at Holyhead) married
Elizabeth (Betsie) Owen (1866 January 29, 1928 or 29; buried at
Holyhead). After serving at sea, Hugh became an Inspector and finally
Chief Constable of Anglesey. The family resided in Holyhead, Menai
Bridge and Llangefni. They had five children.
· Catherine (Kate, Kaddy) Williams (1878 March 4, 1946 or 44 or 45;
buried in Holyhead).
· John (Jack) Williams (May 6, 1875 October 18 or 19, 1956; buried in
Holyhead), a Baptist, married Ellen Jane James (December 17, 1890
probably in Bangor - March 11, 1958), a Wesleyan, on March 12, 1919.
Jack was employed by the LMS (as non-stop Irish Mail Engineer from 1920
onwards) from 1902 to 1944. Prior to joining the LMS, Jack worked
briefly: on a farm; as a pupil-teacher for a year at about age 16 and
went to sea for one voyage. Ellen Jane taught primary school at
Llandrygan until 1919 and played the organ at Wesleyan Chapel in Trefor,
Anglesey. They lived in Holyhead, first at Penial, Kingsland, then 52
London Rd. and finally 24 Holborn Rd. They had two daughters, Gwyneth
Mary and Margaret Eluned.
· Richard Williams (died about 1955) moved to Strangord Lough in 1933,
then Holywood, County Down and finally Belfast.
· Ellen (Nellie Fawr) Williams (died 1966) married Humphrey Hughes, who
owned a shoe repair business. They had one boy who died as a child.
Raised niece and two nephews, William Williams (II)s oldest surviving
children.
· William Williams (II) married Annie and lived on Gilbert St. They
had five children, one daughter and four younger boys. Father, mother
and baby all died of Spanish Flu in 1919.
Hello everyone
The Free Census project aims to transcribe ALL the UK 19th century census
returns to create an online 'free-to-view' database.
Currently we have nearly 50 projects covering a county or part of a county.
All but one are English, the only Welsh project covers Anglesey. The first

We would dearly love to hear from anyone who would be willing to organise a
Welsh county project. All the support you need will be provided including

PS. *IF* the PR's of Amlwch and/or Llaneilian are name indexed, then I would appreciate a
search for Matthew OWEN-related events 1792-1816 (rather than 1792-1805), if possible.

Hi Pat. This is Ron Roberts again. You stated in your last note that you had
written to a British Ancestry group and it was a no charge basis unless they
found some record. Can you give me some more information about this group.
How to get in touch with them, cost if they find something, what information
they need, how long it takes etc. Hope this is not to much of a bother, but
thanks again. Ron

Hello Ron:
Thank you for your reply to my message. I really can't tell if we are
connected thru our Jones or not, as I can not seem to get back any farther
than the name of my gggrandfather. I do not know where he came from, when
he was born, or anything more than his name was William Jones and that the
mother's name was Jean McKechnie. The only thing I know about our Jones
family is my grandparents, William Jones and Marian Millar. His parents
names (my ggrandparents) were William Jones and Jean Hardie and it is the
birth of this William Jones that I am currently trying to find. He married
my Jean Hardie in 1870 and died in 1875, so that doesn't give me much time
to track his birth. The only thing I know is that he said his parents names
were William Jones and Jean McKechnie. I even wrote to the British Ancestor
group, who say if they can't find them you don't owe them anything. Well,
they wrote back telling me they could not find them. Good luck in your
search. Hope you have better luck than me.
Pat

Hello Keith
Until 1862, burials in Bangor were at the Cathedral churchyard,(and its
extension at Tan-y-Fynwent 1840-62). As the population of the city grew,
these bural grounds became congested and a public cemetery was opened at
Glanadda in 1862. By the 1920s this was filling up, so the New Cemetery was
opened in 1931 (first interment November 1931). Burials still take place in
both places.
The Cathedral Yard and Tan-y-Fynwent were cleared in the 1940s, but the
gravestones were recorded. The MIs can be searched at University of Wales
Bangor, Dept. of Archives (Bangor MS 7345 & 7346).
The records of both Glanadda and New cemeteries are at the Crematorium
Office, New Cemetery, Llandegai Road, Bangor, Gwynedd.
Glanadda is being recorded by GFHS. About 20% has been done, and these are
mostly early ones, but let me know who you are looking for, just in case
we've recorded it.
Are there any GFHS members out there who could spare some time during the
summer months to record this huge cemetery? All volunteers welcome!
Kind regards,
David Price, Bangor.

Hi, I am new to this list and am wondering if any listers could tell me how
many cemeteries/burial grounds there are in Bangor, and if possible their
locations. I am looking specifically for the ones which would've been in use
in 1947.
Many thanks

We are looking for information on the ANCESTORS and DESCENDANTS of Rowland
Williams, born about 1820 in Dulgelly, Wales. He married Anne Evans who was
born in Dyffryn, Wales. They had seven children:
1. William
2. Edward (was a poet)
3. Mary
4. Evan
5. Gwen
6. Rowland
7. Anne
Anne (7) was born June 6, 1850 in Dolgellau, Merionetshire, Wales. She
married Richard Davies Williams from Barmouth, Wales. They came to the USA
about 1881 and settled in Racine, Wisconsin. Richard and Anne were my
grandparents.
Believe that Rowland (6) had a son named Daniel R. Williams that came to
the USA in 1914 and settled in Racine, Wisconsin.
Have a photo of this family taken in the late 1870's by C.H. Young of
Dolgelley, Towyn and Aberdovey. Does anyone know if this business is still
there.
Thank you in advance for any info that you can help with...

Hello Jack and Dick
As two of the preceeding entries on the 1881 census apear in the Pandy
Tudor area, and as there is also a Tyn Y ffordd there - could it
possibly be the one on Post Code LL22 8UE Streetmap. It viewed better
not on the largest magnification but the third one down.
