The answer to this question is, unfortunately, it depends what you're looking
for. Both of the companies you refer to have "free" pages which give some
information on what they have to offer. Ancestry.com also has a free trial
period.
If you are looking for information about Gwynedd or anywhere else in the UK
Ancestry.Com has very little to offer and Genealogy.com even less. If you are
after American records you seem get more for your money from Ancestry.
Before paying subscription fees to any company, see if you can get the
information you want without charge first. Check out Rootsweb
(http://rootsweb.com) GenUKI (http://www.genuki.org.uk/) and Cyndy's list
(http://www.cyndislist.com/). Ask your questions on this and similar lists,
and stick the main words of your query in a good search engine such as Google.
The reason for suggesting trying the free services first is not out of
meanness (or frugality as we call it in Wales!), but because some of the less
scrupulous subscription web-sites (not the two you mentioned) charge for
searching free sites, and take advantage of information freely provided by
volunteers for the benefit of other family historians.
Hope this helps

Hi Bob,
I have had very good success with two sites searching for documents and
manuscripts. You might give them both a try.

Many, many thanks to all of you who have answered my plea for an up-date on
the conditions in Wales. We are still unsure, but have to make a decision
by the end of this week.
You all have been so very helpful and I appreciate the time you have taken
to help me out.

Hello all!
I have a friend that lives in London. He is willing to look for birth
certificates for me. Can you tell me exactly where I need to send him? Is
it the Family Records Center that I need to send him to for these?
An address would be helpful too!
Thanks!
