Hello Elida,
Ty Mawr is the Welsh for large house, and there would be many hundreds of
houses with that name in Wales.
Llandyfrydog is a parish in N.E. Anglesey.
Conwy is not in Anglesey. It was in Caernarfonshire, but is now in the new
county of Conwy. If you are looking to the past, then Caernarfonshire would be
your best bet.
All the best,
Stan,
Gwynedd FHS.

Subject: Michrofiche Reader (free)
I have a LARGE 3 lens michrofiche reader, in excellent working order, which
i don't need,
which i will give free to anyone (preferably a FH society) who needs it. All
i ask is that a small,
say £10, donation is given to Comic Relief.
Whoever takes it must pick it up.
I also have a Pentium 133Mhz computer (minus operating system), with CD ROM
and monitor, which
i no longer need, which i will give to anyone (preferably a FH society) who
needs it. All i ask is that a small,
say £30, donation is given to Comic Relief.
Whoever takes it must pick it up.
There are no catches and all is legit, it is just that i don't need them any
more.
I would prefer them to go to a good home and that they do some good to
Family
Historians as well as Comic Relief.
I have posted this to all the lists i subscribe to and hope the ADMINS do
not
mind, as it is for charity.
First to respond will get.

Your right about that Mike, I never thought that far ahead. I told you I
should of had more coffee before writting this notice.
If anyone out there has access to the 1891 census for Dwygyfylchi Parish,
please feel free to take a look. Here is the info again.
First off, let me apologize if some of you get this twice!
Does anyone have the 1891 census for Dwygyfylchi Parish, that covers the
town of Penmaenmawr? I'm looking for my g-grandfather, FRANCIS JONES. In
the 1881 census he was 16 and living at home at Tundo House. His parents
were, WILLIAM JONES and ANN WATSON JONES. His occupation at that time is
listed as Setts Maker (Stone Quarrier). He was born 26 July, 1865 -
Dwygyfylchi, Parish, Penmaenmawr.
Can SKS help me with this?
Thank you,
Pat Jones Smith
Ok...so I'm brain dead. Please disregard my last message for help. I forgot
that my g-grandfather was already here in the US by 1888. So I guess that's
means no matter how hard any of you look, you won't find him on the 1891
census.
I'm just tryiing to figure out when he came over here. Can't seem to find
him on any ship lists!!
So sorry! Guess I should of had one more cup of coffee this morning!!

Can someone tell me what the farm names of "Suntur" (also spelled Syntir)
and "Llechengen" mean?
Also, the records show that my ancestor who lived at Llenchengen was a
yeoman as well as a clerk. To me, a clerk is a person who records
information. However, it appears he could not write so I am wondering if a
clerk meant something different in the 1750s. Since Llechengen was near the
church, I am wondering if clerk meant the caretaker of the building. Does
anyone have any ideas??
Thank you very much.

Hello,
Before I go out and purchase this book, has anyone gone through a copy
and have an opinion if it is of use to family historians? I saw one of
the video chapters on The History Channel and at times seemed a bit too
trite, but I'd like more info. Thanks in advance. (Please don't
consider my *trite* to be a knock on the book, I just want to know if the
package delivered at face value has a good, solid basis.)

Hello Bob,
I can tell you that Hugh Jones married Sarah Prichard in St. Cybi, the
parish church in Holyhead, on 22nd March 1809. Both were living in Holyhead,
both were single, and they were married by banns.
All the best,
Stan.

Hello Len,
There is no house named Ty y Drain in Llanddaniel now, but there is one
called Tyddyn Drain, which is much the same thing.

Hello listers!
There was talk earlier about placing family time-lines next to historical
timelines as a means of understanding the society, work and life our
ancestors led. This was to me a wonderful idea, so I went out searching
on my own. Someone may have already posted this link. If so, please
forgive me posting it again, but it just seems to rich a site to miss.
This is not the beginning of the link, but for the years 1784 to 1794.
By clicking on the links running on the side of the page, other time
frames are available. Not only is this vital information (in my humble
opinion, as a relative newcomer) for Wales, but it also interrelates with
other emigration matters, influences the Welsh had in other lands and on
other thoughts of the period.
http://www.britannia.com/celtic/wales/timeline/tl12.html
Please take a moment and visit it. It may not be the end all answer to
many questions about the area and it's people, but it surely gave me a
much greater understanding of the transformation of the iron and coal
industries, which was my goal when I began looking.
Best wishes in your endeavors,

Dear Julie,
Your suspicions are quite correct, there were property rights involved in getting on the
Electoral Rolls. In fact, it has been said that the 1951 UK General Election was the first
one where one person: one vote applied.
[Before any 'flames' are composed, allow me to point out that certain Universities sent
their own MP's to Parliament, independently of the town/city they were situated in, so
University members who normally lived at home (& who were over 21 yo) had *two* votes]
Electoral Rolls started in/about 1842 (as the result of the First reform Act, 1837ish).
However, as the century wore on, further (Electoral) Reform Acts were passed, each of
which widened the franchise.
Hope this helps,
Trevor
