Additional information on this Harris (Harries) Family would be greatly appreciated.
Edwin Harris (Harries) was born in Bristol, Somerset on or about 1830. Elizabeth Yeo was
born in Ilfracombe, Devon on or about 1840. They married on 25 April, 1863 in the District
of Swansea in the County of Glamorgan. They went on to have nine children, all sons:
James, born about 1865, Thomas, born about 1867, Edwin, born about 1868, George, born
about 1870, John, born about 1872, William, born about 1874, Benajmin, born about 1875,
Isaac, born about 1876, and Evan, (my Grandfather) born on 25 December, 1878. James was
named for Edwin, the elder's Father and Thomas was named for Elizabeth's Father.
Isaac Harris and Evan Harris emigrated to America in 1899.
Edwin, the elder was a copper worker for much of his life and later was employed as a
Canal Bargeman when he died on 3 April, 1907. Edwin, the junior, died on 18 April, 1912 of
pneumonia. William Harris, died on 29 May, 1896 of a gunshot wound. William, Edwin, the
Elder, Edwin, the Junior and Elizabeth are all interred in Ynysmaerdy Cemetery, Briton
Ferry
Elizabeth Harris, age 70, is found in the 1911 Census for Wales, living at 11 Woodland
Terrace, Briton Ferry Road, Crumlin Burrows, Glamorgan with her Son Edwin Harris, her
Grandson James Harris and James Manly, a boarder. Edwin, her Son was to pass away on 18
April, 1812 and Elizabeth was to pass away on 20 April, 1912.
This would leave five of Edwin and Elizabeth sons still unaccounted for, as Isaac and Evan
died in America.
For the period of 1871 to 1911, the family was always found in Wales, in the Briton Ferry
area. I am hopeful that descendants of this family may still living in the Briton Ferry
area and may have recollections of their ancestors that could share information with their
American cousin.
Over the years that I have been researching this family, I have had special help from a
number of non-related researchers from the Briton Ferry area. They have made special
efforts to provide on-site information in response to my special requests. If they see
this message, I again thank you and I am hopeful I can draw additional help from others in
my search.
