Dear Listers,
My great grandfather John DAVIES (Blacksmith) born Briton
Ferry, Neath, Glamorgan 1809 was the son of Lewis DAVIES
(Blacksmith) and wife Hannah. John moved to Southwark and
married Mary Ann Breeden there on 12 April 1846.
Others in Lewis and Hannah's family at Briton Ferry were
Jennet (1799),
Lewis-William (1801), Evan (1803), William (1805), David
(1807), Mary
(1811) and Catherine (1815).
In the Briton Ferry 1841 Census only the father Lewis(60),
son William(35) both Blacksmiths and daughter Catherine(20)
appeared, plus two boys born in Ireland (?William's sons)
Peter(15) and Lewis(10) both shown as Blacksmiths.
Only Census Address was Briton Ferry "North of the turnpike
road leading from Cardiff to Neath.
None of the family have been found in the 1851 Census apart
from possibly Peter Davies age 22 born in Ireland a soldier
at Longcross Barracks, Cardiff, who might be the one above
though the ages don't match.
Hannah died in Neath in 1832 age 63, and Lewis died there
in 1859 age 81, both buried in Briton Ferry.
I should be glad to hear of any links to members of the
family, especially Lewis Sr and Hannah whose marriage and
births have not yet been traced.
Thanks,
Howard Davies
