A good idea Kathleen, I'll try and make a start.
I was born in Briton Ferry in 1945 and lived there until 1966, unfortunately
during that period I had no interest in genealogy and only became interested
when the people who could have helped me most had passed on. Having spent my
youth there I have fond memories of the place and of course the people. I
think I have learnt more about Briton Ferry since I have left than I did
whilst I lived there. I was unaware that Isambard Kingdom Brunel had
designed Briton Ferry docks and was unaware that Briton Ferry had a castle
( Hen Gastell ) although to be fair excavation did not start there until
1991 by which time I was long gone.
My mother was born in Aberavon so my research in Briton Ferry primarily
concerns my fathers side. The names I am researching in Briton Ferry are:-
Roberts
Bedford
Perrett
Dixon
Lodwick
Arnold
Watkins
I am also keen to track down the origins of "Salmon Tin Park" Briton Ferry
as I remember being told as a child, that one of my ancestors had
donated it to the people of Briton Ferry. It is featured in "Images of
Neath and Port Talbot" by David Roberts published by the South Wales Evening
Post and is a small piece of land between Shelone Road and the main railway
line to Paddington. Anyone know anything about it ? Or any suggestions how I
may find out.
Well I think I have said enough to start off with,
Kind Regards,
Mike
