Dear Lizanne,
If you like I will add you to our (my friend Molly & I ) list for
look-ups, we go to the Hawarden Record Office most Thursdays, and will try
our best to look him up, it may be a few weeks before we get to the look-up,
as we have loads to do at the moment.
Have you any info that will set your family apart from the other DAVIES
that we are sure to find?

Subject: [FLN] DAVIES born about 1841 in Bagillt
Greetings Flintshire Listers,
By way of introduction . . . yes, I am researching the very, very rare
Welsh name
of DAVIES!
No, I didn't think that was a very good joke either but face it,
with a
brick wall case like this it's either laugh or cry!
Please could SKS suggest where I should go next?
My William DAVIES was found with his wife and children in the 1881 British
Census
at 63 Opie Street, Everton, Lancs. He is an Engine Driver, age 40,
Birthplace : Bagill (sic), Flint, Wales. With this info I went to the LDS
IGI and found several dozen William DAVIES matches born in Wales in the year
he was born but none of them were from Bagillt, Flint. I also tried the
British Isles Vital Records Index to no avail.
I would like to get his birth certificate but cannot afford to get
all the
William DAVIES born in 1841 so I need to narrow down the field. How am I
going to do that when I already have a problem identifying his son, William
DAVIES, who was born in Liverpool along with twelve other namesakes in the
same year and place?
The only way that I can think of is to look at the 1841 Census for
Bagillt
(if he was born before 7 June) or the 1851 census to see what his
father's
name is (hopefully it's not William, too, although according to the naming
pattern it will be).
Please could SKS who perhaps has the relevant censuses look up in the
1841
and/or 1851 Census for Bagillt my William DAVIES. I would greatly
appreciate any assistance received and I am willing to do lookups in my
resources in return.
Please could somebody also tell me where in Flint, Bagillt was/is?
And
how it is related to Holywell? A descendant of the above William DAVIES
lived in Holywell (perhaps another clue?)
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Lizanne Cockbain
