Anybody come across a Hugh ALLCOCK (b >Caernarfon c1819) who
married
possibly Ruth JONES >1843-ish in Flintshire (Halcyn ?) Ruth died 1846 and
>Hugh remarried to Jane JONES also in 1846 (possibly >Jane and Ruth were
sisters).
Regulars of this list know of my interest in Halkyn and I have Hugh Alcock
in my extensive records. He first appears when a daughter Jane was baptised
at Halkyn church on 18 Dec. 1842. His wife was listed as Elizabeth [nee
Jones].
The next event is the burial of his wife Ruth on 30 Jan. 1846 aged 26. Then
we have the burial of Elizabeth daughter of Hugh and Ruth on 5 March 1849
aged 9.
I am aware that there seems something wrong here - I am reading from notes I
made on all Halkyn families about 15 years ago and not from originals, so
all needs checking.
In the 1851 census Hugh Alcock and Naomi [!!] were living at Moel-yCrio on
Halkyn mountain. He is aged 32 born Caernarfonshire and she aged 25. They
have a daughter Jane aged 7, William aged 2 and Elizabeth Jones, a widow of
61 listed as mother!.
I then have the baptism on 16 May 1852 of Elizabeth daugher of Hugh and
Elizabeth [I am really getting confused now!] at Rhesycae Church [a newly
built church to serve, amongst other communities, Moel-y-Crio.]
If you can make sense of all this then please do come back to me as I have
information on a Ruth Jones who fits the bill and also a Naomi Jones !! [not
sisters].
