Good afternoon listers, further to message below, regarding marriage of a Jonathan
Jennings & Catherine Holman. I am wondering is it possible that Joseph
Jennings/Catherine Jones & Nathaniel Holman/Johanna Northway may have been Welsh ? as
I still have not been able to find births/baptisms of either Jonathan Jennings or
Catherine Holman in Cornwall. I have even tried variations of the mother's names ie:
Johns for Jones, and Norway/Northy for the mothers. Am I correct that Jones is more a
Welsh name ?, or am I just clutching at straws and will have to perserve in pushing that
old brick wall a bit harder.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.....................rgds from Australia, Coral
Jennings

Original message request: Can anyone look up a Halkyn marriage mid 1820s -
IGI shows Christenings for a Joseph Jennings 26.7.1825, and a William >> 19.9.1827,
both Halkyn Flint Wales - parents
Jonathan Jennings & Catherine Holman.
Bryn replied:
Yes, they married at Halkyn on 26 Feb 1825. He was described as son of
Joseph [a lead miner] and Catherine [nee Jones] and his bride
Catherine as
the daughter of Nathaniel Holman [lead miner] and Johannah [nee Northway].
At the baptism of the first of the two children Jonathan is described as a
lead miner, and secondly as an engineer.
Some years ago I did much research on the lead-mining industry in Halkyn and
can tell you that a large number of Cornishmen arrived at Halkyn in the
early 1820s having been invited by the mineowners to reorganise the whole of
the operations there. There is no further evidence of this family in the
district.
Hope this helps,
