I'm looking for any records on a Jeremiah SPENCER b ca. 1777-1782
who
married Elizabeth Williams prob abt 1802 and had the following children
who
were baptized in Holywell, Flintshire;
Many of the surname Spencer came to the parish of Halkyn which adjoins
Holywell parish. They came as lead miners following a large discovery of
lead ore in the early 1700s. They also settled in other neighbouring
lead-mining parishes, and various lines of their descendants can be
traced in parish records. There are still Spencer's about! As most of
the other families who came to Halkyn at that time came from the lead
mining areas of Derbyshire, I would assume that they had the same
origin.
I have checked my extensive records of the Spencers of Halkyn and
unfortunately cannot find a Jeremiah amongst them. The only help this
gives of course is that it eliminates one of the parishes bordering
Holywell for you!!
