Does anyone have family links with Connahs Quay?
My Fathers' family both maternal/paternal moved there for work at the end of
the nineteenth century and beginning of the C20.
Both families lived on Primrose Hill and at the Old Post Office on the High
Street.
My Grandfather had a horse who he loved and when she died he buried her near
to the quayside and put up a memorial stone there for her. Does anyone know
of this? I've roamed the area high and low but not found it. The area around
the quay is developed any many old building are no longer standing so the
site is no doubt lost.
The community was very close-knit. On my own family history quest I have
found many distant relations still living in the surrounding area and have
collected some stories. One lady spent hours walking around with me and even
pointed out the exact spot where the house stood in which my late Father was
born. I feel very sad that the older residents feel that the good days have
gone due to younger incomers not wanting to share in community life.Same old
story TV, Videos and children who get driven everywhere!!
I would be grateful if anyone with links to the area and stories to tell
would share the information. Conversely if I have anything of interest to
share I will.
Names I'm looking for are Smith(!), Brockley, Tovey and Stockton
