Caroline,
I agree with the comments of other listers regarding illegitimacy, but don't
forget to check out the possibility of Mary Vester having another daughter
married to a Collins. See if you can locate the family in the 1871 census.
Regards,
Nigel Parry.

Subject: [FLN] Collins of Downing
I have an 1881 census entry in Yorkshire for one Tom Collins, grandson
aged
6, born Downing Wales.
His grandmother was Mary Vester, aged 63
Other people living with Mary were her son John who was aged 26 and
married,
Thomas an unmarried son and Elizabeth an unmarried daughter
So who does young Tom Collins belong to?
I can't find a Vester/Collins marriage on the IGI.
Any ideas or help gratefully received.
Caroline Gaden
