The illegitamate entries in the parish registers I have seen mostly give the
fathers name to the child, but after a discussion on another list someone
said they knew of children that as they grew older would use one surmane
oneday and another surname the next day, swopping between both parents
surnames. Which unfortunately causes confusion for us years later!
