Dear Listers:
This is the beginning of my journey into the wilds of Wales in search of the
BLACKWELL family.
Please be patient with me as I cannot speak the language and thus have
trouble with spelling placenames.
Joseph BLACKWELL married Anne ROBERTS 1865 in Holywell, Flintshire.
Starting with the 1871 census (where I first ran into trouble) Joseph was
born in Nanerch, Flintshire and his wife was born in Llanferas [I believe I
have that spelt right] and his children in Mold and Northap. Investigation
leads me to suspect that the proper spelling is Northop.
The census was taken at Caerfalwch, Rhyudmwyn set out in accordance with
Registrars reply 23/1/72 W. H. Edwards. the writing is terrible and I am
pretty sure that I have transcribed place names incorrectly. Also, what
does "set out in accordance..." mean? I have not come across this before.
1881 census states that Joseph was born in Bwlch Gwyn, Denbigshire. I
believe that the spelling should be Denbighshire. Where is Bwlch Gwyn?
1881 census states that his wife, Anne, was born in Glenferras, Denbigshire?
Five of the children are born in Cofnergen??? One is born in Cat Hole,
Flintshire. Parloc does not show Cat Hole.
It does get worse! However, If I could please have some help with the
proper spellings of Welsh place names, I am sure I will be able to Google
for them for more information.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Of course, if anyone reading this is related to or researching this family,
I would just love to hear from you.
