Good Morning Listers, I have a problem and I am hoping someone maybe able to help me
please.
Some months ago I sent to this site looking for details of a marriage (if any) of the
parents of a Joseph Jennings & William Jennings who are mentioned in the IGI as
being born Halkyn Flintshire 1825,1827 respectively, both listings state parents as being
a Jonathan Jennings and a Catherine Holman.
A very kind gentleman replied giving me the following information:
Yes, they married at Halkyn on 26 Feb 1825. He was described as son of Joseph [a lead
miner] and Catherine [nee Jones] and his bride Catherine as the daughter of Nathaniel
Holman [lead miner] and Johannah [nee Northway].
At the baptism of the first of the two children Jonathan is described as a lead miner,
and secondly as an engineer.
Apparently at the time it was common for Cornish Miners to travel to Wales to work.
Not having got much further, having searched all of these names with no luck. I recently
sent for a marriage bond from the NLW, and it mentions no family details whatsoever, so
where the parents of the parents details came from I can only guess, as the bond only
lists parents as being residents of Halkyn. So I am virtually back where I started.
My problem is that we hold a marriage certificate for a Joseph Jennings, (who is my
husband's GGF) which states that his father was a Jonathan Jennings, Miner. Joseph
was married in Gwennap Cornwall in 1847, he was a resident of Lannarth at the time of the
marriage, also the 1841 Gwennap census shows a Joseph & a William with a mother
Catherine as all being born in Cornwall, also a mysterious Edwin (we won't even go
there). Transciption shows born in county or Cornwall could be open to conjecture.
Also to add to the mix, there is a Jonathan & Catherine Jennings listed in the Gwennap
baptisms as having a son Jonathan in 1831, by 1841 there is no sign of either Jonathan
senior or junior.
Other than telling me - I have finally hit that old brick wall that cannot be climbed
over, is there any one who may have a helpful suggestions where I could go looking now
please.
Have a good day everyone.
