Looking for any help about my Robert Born 1743 son of Thomas Edwards
born 1723.
Robert was born at a farm called Groesffordd in Isgeifigg Parrish,
Flint Shire,
North Wales. I live in the USA in the state of Iowa. So I not
familar about how
to search this information in Wales. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.
There is a farm called Groesffordd Farm at grid reference SJ173731.
The name of the parish is Ysceifiog or Ysgeifiog, Flintshire.
Ysceifiog village is just over 2 km SW of the above farm. There may
be other farms with similar names in the locality.
For location go to
http://www.streetmap.co.uk
Select 'Landranger grid' and enter the grid reference.
Zoom out from the street-map format by clicking on the [-] button at
the bottom right to get a 3 km x 3 km section of the local Ordnance
Survey 1:50,000 Landranger map. You can zoom out further to obtain a
30 km x 30 km section.
The parish registers of Ysceifiog (christenings 1662-1867, marriages
1662-1838, burials 1662-1910) are in the Denbighshire Record Office,
Ruthin; the Flintshire Record Office, Hawarden and the National
Library of Wales (NLW), Aberystwyth.
The bishops transcripts (BTs) of the above (with gaps from 1666-1739
but complete from 1739-1841]) are at the NLW. There may be a
microfilm of the BTs available for hire from your local LDS Family
History Centre. You can see what is available for Ysceifiog at the
LDS Family History Library Catalog web-page at
http://familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp
You could join the Clwyd Family History Society and perhaps request a
lookup from their library records.
See what there is available for Ysceifiog/Ysgeifiog on the GENUKI
Wales web-pages at
