If you are ordering online from the GRO then the reference on Free BMD
is the one to use.
I assume that the North Wales Birth Index reference numbers are for
ordering certificates direct from the Welsh registrars and that is why
the numbers are different.
Hope this helps

Subject: [FLN] GRO Help Please
Hello,
I am looking at ordering a birth certificate online and have some
confusion! On the North Wales BMD it says:
North Wales Birth indexes for the years: 1859
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference
DEVENEY Thomas Mold Flintshire West - Holywell MOLD/15/2
But on the Free BMD site it says:
Births Mar 1859
DEVENEY Thomas Holywell 11b __9
Which number do I enter???
Thanks,
Sharyn
