Mar .
I have been researching for many years.I have always encountered kindness,
politness and frequently help even when the answer cannot be found..I have
also reciprocated with help wherever I could ,frequently going the extra
mile to help,as others have for me.
If you re- read my mailing then you will see that I was not asking for
anything specific, just an entry for the Jukes family in Holywell giving my
one key piece of information as a starting point. I specifically said 'any
not all 'census in the time frame given.
I understand the vagaries of the different census documents, but also know
that when you have your own copies and frequently use them to help others
as well as your own research a name will come into focus when a question is
asked and with little effort you can access somethingwhich may just provide
a lead.
However I would not dream of putting you or anyone to any effort they either
cannot or are not prepared to expend.
Fortunately I have already had a kindly and helpful response from a
subscriber to the Flintshire List as other wise I would have a very poor
opinion of the tone of the List.
Were you to know me better you would realise that I am neither impatient nor
demanding and the mail was sent high priority as I have a problem with my
P.c. at the moment.
As you consider me cheeky and then provide a lecture on priorities I suggest
you always read a mailing carefully before dashing of an ill considered
reply.
Fortunately I am new, only to the Flintshire List and well versed in the
use of and etiquette expected in asking for help.Had I been new to research
I would have been very distressed by the sheer unkindness and rudness of
your letter.I can only hope you were having a bad day and your reply was not
usual.
I thank you for such information as you passed on
.Should you find it useful I could tell you how to use the 1881 Census more
effectively than you appear to be doing. Feel free to contact me.
Yours,
Sue in LLantrisant.

Subject: Re: [FLN] JUKES HOLYWELL
Have you the slightest idea of what you are asking? Without any
precise
location it would take someone AGES to read through all the returns for
the Holywell area for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1891 to try and locate
your ancestor, unless of course you are lucky enough to find someone who
has already researched the same family.
The 1881 census is on line, but unless Flint is an exception to the rule,
most of the other censuses have not been indexed. Sometime ago I sent a
query to the Flint Record Office concerning the 1841 - they were able to
find what I was looking for, but I knew the exact address. I suggest you
contact the Record Office to find out if they have an index of names to
any or all of the censuses. There is no indication that they do on the
GENUKI site :
Census
Flintshire Record Office holds microfilms of the original census returns
for the whole of the former county of Clwyd (which includes "old"
Flintshire), and for some adjoining areas, from 1841 to 1891. There are
occasional gaps, particularly in 1861. For a few parishes, lists of names
which were made in connection with the census returns prior to 1841 have
survived, and have been deposited in the Record Office.
Copies of the microfiche for Flintshire and Denbighshire are held at
Flintshire Record Office, and at many LDS Centres.
If you don't mind me saying so, It is cheeky to send a message high
priority for such a request. Finding your ancestors may be a high
priority for you, but why would it be a priority for anyone else?!
