I was interested to see the reference to Gwernafield in connection with lead
mining. There was also at least one family of MILLINGTONs involved in the
same line of work, and living at Panty Buarth. One member of the family (
perhaps others too) emigrated to the USA and was in south west Wisconsin in
1870. This was also a lead mining region with strong Welsh connections. I
too would be interested to hear from anyone with information on Flintshire
lead mines, or who has connections with the lead mining in the USA.

Dear All,
I have just joined this list and would like to post my interests.
My main interest is a Thomas Jones[ my great great grandfather] who was born
in Cilcain in 1846 and later worked in that area as a Lead miner.
He married an Elizabeth Williams in July 1871 at Rhdyymwyn, she was a
servant
of the Vicar James Jones at Rhydymwyn vicarage .
Thomas lived in Gwernafield with his family until around 1885 when they
moved
in search of work initially to Yorkshire, but didnt like it there so made
his
way back towards Wales. He met some other Welsh people in Tyldesley
Lancashire and stayed finding work in the coal mines.
I would appreciate any help particularly with the early census returns of
1851 and 1861 for Cilcain, and any information on the Lead mines around
Cilcain.
