Thanks for your reply Dick. Going by ages in the census material I do have,
I put him born 1857 - 1858. I noticed on the 81 census he is married and
the name is spelt Deveney, and in the 91 census he isn't married and the
name is spelt Devney. In the 1901 census the name is spelt Devenay! I am
sure the first two are the same person, its the 1901 Census that is throwing
me out. On the North Wales BMD site the name is Deveney isn't there but
Davney is, but the certificate says Deveney, born 6th Jan. 1859 in Mold.
The marriage listed on the NW BMD for a Bridget Dawes and Owen Davnay in
1852 would fit but the birth certificate I have says Bridgets name is Day.
Would it be possible that Dawes was wrongly transcribed? I have seen some
very long old S's lol. Yes, I am good at 'straw clutching'!
I can find no Thomas Deveney who fits with other information I have born in
Manchester. But I am trying to get an 1871 census look up just in case he
is there somewhere!
thank you,
