Subject: [CORNISH] BMD Certificates
Good Morning Listers,
Silly question but I will ask it anyway, is it possible that old ( in my
case ) death certificates could be incorrect. I have searched till I
have nearly gone blind trying to find a Jonathan Jennings who fathered a
Joseph who in turn married Alice Rogers of Gwennap and then they migrated
to Aus. According to a question to the Free Census, if the person in the
census is shown as in country it means they were born in Cornwall ?
I found through IGI a Joseph Baptised 1825 Halykn Wales, William Baptised
1827 Halkyn Wales - parents Jonathan Jennings & Catherine Holeman. It
seems a long way from Gwennap. Have these any relationship to the family
in Gwennap who knows, does anyone know where I can find out. There is
nothing in the transcriptions of Gwennap Baptisms for them.
Why am I concentrating on Gwennap and surrounding areas, because a son
born out here in Australia - his birth certificate says his parents Joseph
& Alice lived and married in Gwennap in 1847. We then sent for the
marriage certificate of Joseph & Alice and Jonathan was named as father of
Joseph and Thomas father of Alice. Thankgoodness the details for Alice
are correct.
IGI - also gave me a birth of 2 Catherine Holman's 1797 or 1795 both from
Kenwyn. Nothing else, no marriage anywhere. I found a couple of
Jonathan's in Yorkshire, but that does not lead anywhere.
I have a census of the following
1841 Census in Gwennap was conducted only ones that had any remote
relationship to this family, were
Catherine - 40 - F - in country , she died sometime between 1841 & 1851,
Joseph - 15 - M - in country, Miner, we suspect this Joseph to be my
husbands' great grandfather who migrated to Australia 1851
William - 14 - M - in country, Miner, have not found this one yet
Edwin - 5 - M - (have not been able to find where he came from,
only know he died in Pennance Cornwall in 1848)
A Catherine & Jonathan Jennings had a son Jonathan 1831, born Lanner
(Lannarth), baptised Gwennap. Have no sign of what happened to him at
all, did he die soon after baptism ?. where would I find that registered,
certainly not in Gwennap that I can access
I have a John Jennings died aged 48 Chapel Hill 1839, which fits timeline.
Could his name have been varied.
I know this is dreamtime stuff, but would it not be great to find some
come up with the answer I am looking for.
Any nice suggestions would be wonderful.
Kind regards, have a great day Coral J Qld Aus
