Subject: [FLN] Hendre Isa Farm, Nerquis circa 1881
Hi
This is my first post on this site.
I'm a native of Flintshire born in Holywell many years ago and am
currently trying to sort out some brick walls in my family tree. I'll be
very grateful to hear from anyone whose family ancestors contain the
person I'm seeking.
My mother's mother had a brother John Henry Jones b1860 who is shewn in
the 1881 census as being the schoolmaster at Nerquis school aged 21. In
that census it shows that John Henry dwelled in the Shoole House and that
his sister Catherine/Kate(19) and his sister Jane (12) were also at that
address.
In 1883 John Henry married Elizabeth Roberts(20) who is shewn on the 1881
census as being resident at 'Hender Issa' / 'Hendre Isa' , Nerquis quite
near to the Nerquis School. Elizabeth was 18 in the census and lived with
her brother Edward Roberts (24) head of the family, sisters Margaret (34)
and Mary (22), Uncle Robert Parry (78) and several farm servants and
workers. Edward was farming 121 acres .
John Henry and Elizabeth had two children - Albert H (1883) and Minnie E
(1887) - and decided to emigrate to America. John Henry departed first
in 1888 (I think) and Elizabeth and the two children followed a year
later. They had some tough times at first but survived and eventually
lived in Topeka Kansas. Albert H married but had no children and Minnie E
remained single but died in her early forties. John Henry and Elizabeth
remained in America until their deaths.
I have some photographs where I cannot safely identify the person(s) in
the pictures. Most of the photos that I have were taken in Liverpool or
in Portmadoc Gwynedd and I wonder whether any of them might contain a
picture of Elizabeth.
I would be delighted if there is anyone on this genealogical site who
could add any information to help me link more closely with Elizabeth.
Perhaps someone with connections to 'Hendre Isa' whose Grandparents could
be the Edward,Margaret and Mary of the 1881 census. I have no information
at all about the years immediately after their wedding and do not know if
John Henry continued as schoolmaster until his emigration.
It is obviously a very long shot after all these years, but I remain
optimistic.
Thanks in anticipation.
