Here Here Alwyn !!!!
What a great idea........so here are my interests and progress
reports.....!
I am researching Thomas ROBERTS born 1821-ish in Rhyddlan Flintshire. I have
found him in 1881 and 1891 living as a Tailor on the High Street Meliden
Flintshire.
I believe that Thomas had 4 children including
Mary Ellen ROBERTS born 1855 Prestatyn
Roberd D ROBERTS born 1866-ish Prestatyn
I have found out that Mary on later Census returns but what I am interested
in is her parents. Thomas seemed to stay in the same trade and the same area
so I hope this will help me find out more.
I would love to know the names of the other siblings ?
Any input would be appreciated.
Sarah

List Administrator Alwyn suggested we occasionally post what we
know as well as what we are looking for.
First, what is already known.
1. My interest lies in a couple that were born in Wales but married in
Cheshire.
2. Japheth HUGHES married Maria WILLIAMS, 3 December 1852 at the
Independent Church, Chester, Cheshire.
3. Japheth HUGHES was 26 years old, a joiner (carpenter), and resided
on Weaver's Lane in Chester at the time of his marriage. His father John
HUGHES was a farmer. Later records in the United States indicates
Japheth was born February 1826 in Wales, likely Flintshire.
4. Maria WILLIAMS was 24 years old, a spinster, and resided on Queen
Street in Chester at the time of her marriage. Her father Henry WILLIAMS
was a butcher. One of the witnesses to the marriage was an Eliza
WILLIAMS. Later records in the United States indicates Maria was born
May 1829 Wales, likely Flintshire.
5. Japheth and Maria had a son Henry John HUGHES born 16 August 1853 at
Chester, Cheshire. They were living at Queen's park when he was born,
with Japheth listed as a joiner.
6. This young family went to America, arriving at New York 21 August
1854. They settled in Franklin County, Ohio (near Columbus). Eight
daughters were born between 1856 and 1869 named Eliza A., Margaret,
Amanda, Settie, Hannah, Jane P., Mary Ellen, and Nettie.
Now, what I am looking for.
Can you find any of the above individuals on the 1851 census?
a. Japheth HUGHES, about 25
b. John HUGHES, farmer
c. Maria WILLIAMS, about 23
d. Henry WILLIAMS, butcher
e. Eliza WILLIAMS
Ruth Ann in the United States
My interest in flintshire is MARY PRICE born in Mold Flintshire circa 1848 she married a George Pinches in Chester in 1872.
This is all the info I have at the moment anyone able to add to this please contact me.
Thanks

Ann JONES married Samuel PRITCHARD, a watchmaker, on 3 Jan 1831 at St Nicholas, Liverpool.
They had at least three children in Liverpool:
William James PRITCHARD 1831 m. Louisa COUCH at St Martin-in-the Fields, London 1851
Samuel PRITCHARD, also a watchmaker, married Ann SAVAGE of Manchester, St Nicholas, Liverpool 1833
Ann PRITCHARD, 1835 - nothing else known
Samuel Sr, Samuel Jr & William James all moved to London, the two Samuels working as watchmakers in Clerkenwell. Samuel Sr & Ann then moved to Coventry, sometime after 1861.
In 1881, Samuel & Ann (née JONES) were living at Spon End, Court 3, House 2, Coventry. Ann died of old age at the Coventry workhouse on 13 Nov 1891, her husband having died of the same cause at the same place in May of the same year. Ann is probably buried at London Rd Cemetery, Coventry, like her husband, presumably in a pauper's grave.
And if anyone recognizes these PRITCHARDS as originating in the same area of Wales, please let me know. I believe Samuel PRITCHARD Sr was baptized at St Nicholas Liverpool on 8 Jan 1809, son of Samuel PRITCHARD & Margaret LLOYD, but I am not sure of this, as one of the censuses says he was born at St Luke's Finsbury in London.
Samuel PRITCHARD & Ann JONES were the paternal grandparents of my gt-grandmother Annaretta Louisa PRITCHARD.
MAR in France.
Joseph Griffiths b. about 1846 in Flint, and d. 1926 in Sandycroft.
Elizabeth Ellis b. about 1843, Neston, Wirral, Cheshire, and d. 1919 in
Sandycroft. They married about 1868 and lived in Mancot and Sandycroft.
Their parents???

One of the problems with Rootsweb mailing lists, and other similar sites, is
that we tend to use them just to ask questions about what we don't know
about our families, rather than to tell others what we DO know about them.
On the north west Wales lists some good contacts have been made by an
appeal that I make every 18 months or so for list members to "tell what they
know".
I'm going to try the same tactic on my "new" north east lists!
On English lists it is possible to add a Signature - Looking for Stockford
in Oxfordshire, (if you are, please let me know) but looking for Jones in
Denbighshire doesn't work as well for obvious reasons!
So, can every list member let "us" all know what "you" know about your
families in Flintshire, Denbighshire and Edeyrnion so that we can compare
notes?
But please, in responding, don't answer this posting - a hundred responses
to this thread will be difficult for search engines to pick up. Start a new
thread such as "Interest - Jones, Carneddau, Llanrwst" (my wife's family).
Looking forward to a response from every member of the Clwyd, Flintshire and
Denbighshire lists!!!
All the best
Alwyn

Following is a message posted on the List Owners England and Wales mailing

Please do not reply to this post on-list. If you have any queries reply to
me personally off list.
Please do not forward a copy of this message to any other list.

There have been a number of messages around the lists to which I'm
subscribed reporting unauthorised withdrawal of funds from credit card and
bank accounts connected with the company Research-UK, now bought by Ancestor
Detectives.
I've been in contact with Sussex Police.
They will collate all reports on this.
Please contact their CRIB - Crime Recording Investigation Bureau on 0845
6070999.
They've now set up a reference number for the reports - quote 587 on 3
March.
They *can* be contacted by email on contact.centre(a)sussex.police.uk , but as
they have one person dealing with email, and 50 on the phones, they suggest
those in the UK use the phone!
This is not a company I am familiar with. I do not wish to make any
suggestions about them or their business methods or probity, simply to pass
on the reported existence of a problem.
