lol thank you Mar... I tend to think that MoldFlintshire... written badly
and all together could look like Manchester!!!!! I wondered if I was just
kidding myself tho! I have checked out all the other ones in the immediate
birth year but they are either married to someone else or not born anywhere
close to Manchester. I suppose the only way to be sure that Owen and
Bridget are his parents are to get his birth certificate. There is one
Deveney listed in 1859 for Mold... spelt differently from Owen and Bridget
tho. Then I actually don't have anything but circumstantial evidence to
make him 'mine' anyway. But maybe that will just have to do!

Hello,
I am trying to find information on:
North Wales Marriage indexes for the years 1852:
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office
Registers
> > At Reference
> >
> > DEVANY Owen DAWES Bridget Holywell, Civil Marriage Flintshire West -
> > Holywell HOL/03/27
I believe there are my 2nd great grandparents however, I do have a problem.
I am trying to link them with a Thomas Deveney b.1858.
There is a Thomas Deveney born in Flintshire in 1858.
I have this from the 1881 Census:
Institution: "Royal Naval Hospital" East Stonehouse Plymouth
Census Place: East Stonehouse, Devon, England
Thos. DEVENEY U 24 M Mold, Wales
Rel: Patient
Occ: Private R Marines
(this is just a stones throw (0.6 of a mile), from where his wife to be
Elizabeth Clinnick lived, they married in Plymouth 1885. The marriage
certificate of Thomas and Elizabeth notes his occupation as RMLI private and
his father's name as Owen, as a Dyer.)
then this from 1891:
RG12/1836/122/3
HMS Ganges, Training Ship, Plymouth - moored in Falmouth Harbour,
Cornwall
Thomas DEVNEY, Member of Crew, Single, 33, Private RMLI, Flintshire Mold
I have a Thomas Deveney in the 1901 Census (spelt Devenay), the right age
but born in Manchester! I know the 1901 Deveney family is mine. And his
being a marine would account for him not being present in earlier census
material with his family. Family lore also has it that he was a marine.
So all the circumstantial evidence points to this Thomas Deveney being mine,
but the 1901 born in Manchester puts this all out of sync.
Any suggestions/advice anyone??
thank you

There are many, many mistakes in the transcription of the 1901 census so I suggest you check whether there was a Thomas born in Manchester at the date given in the 1901 census. If not, I would assume Mold Flintshire has been misread by an Indian transcriber as Manchester!. There are far worse mistakes than that!

After seven years as Administrator of the Clwyd, Wls-Denbighshire and
Wls-Flintshire Rootsweb mailing lists Vic Roberts has decided that it is
time to hand the reigns over to somebody else. Everybody with an interest in
Family History in north Wales will appreciate how busy Vic is with many
projects such as Clwyd FHS, North Wales BMD and the North Wales FH Fair and
will appreciate why he has decided to lighten his load a little bit by
relinquishing the list administration duties.
Vic will remain a member of the lists and we will continue to benefit from
his wisdom and expertise through his list membership.
As from today I will be taking over the duties as list administrator for
Clwyd, Wls-Denbighshire and Wls Flintshire, which I will be adding to my
current responsibilities for the lists that cover Gwynedd and the three old
counties of north west Wales. From the list membership point of view there
will be little difference in the way that the lists are run – the “rules and
regulations”, as few as they are, will remain the same and I hope to
maintain the friendly and helpful ethos that lists have had since their
inception.
I'm sure that all list members will want to join me in thanking Vic for the
work that he has done to make these lists such a resounding success over the
past seven years and to wish him all the best with the terrific amount of
work that he will continue to do for family historians through his other
projects and responsibilities.
All the best
