Hello John,
Thanks so much for replying to my inquiry. Yes we have the 1881 census and
the family in Llandrinio is most probably the correct one. Eleanor KILVERT
emigrated to the US in 1895 and married Thomas THOMAS b1869 (who had
emigrated in 1893) just four days after she arrived. Family history says
that they knew each other before emigrating. The puzzle is , how did they
meet prior to emigrating? Penygroes being quite a distance from the Oswestry
area. There is evidence to suggest that TT worked at the Glyn Ceiriog slate
quarries which would place him much closer to where Eleanor KILVERT b.1872
was living, which is why the 1891 census could possibly provide and answer.
Was TT perhaps in lodgings in the region?.
Thomas THOMAS was the son of
Thomas William THOMAS d1908 and Gwen d?
He had three brothers,
Morris THOMAS, prob married to Mary
Richard THOMAS ,prob married to Elin
William THOMAS m. Mary JONES
Three children
William age 3 Richard age 2 and Margaret age 1 (in 1891)
All the above were almost certainly living in Penygroes at the time of the
1891 census and the family address may have been either
1 Rhwng y Llwyni Penygroes or 24 Llwyndu Road, Penygroes
According to the marriage registry Eleanor Elizabeth KILVERT's parents were
Thomas KILVERT and Emilie ROBERTS.
Am I inquiring in the correct county for Glyn Ceiriog?
Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated .
Thank you,
David Thomas

David Thomas,
I assume that you have checked the 1881 census but just in case you
haven't
the only Kilverts in Wales that might fit your search are at
Llandrinio in
Montgomeryshire, there is an Elizabeth of the right age.
Unfortunately there are a few Thomas Thomases in the slate quarrying
communities in Caernarvonshire so it is difficult to get a fix on one
individual - do have info on siblings etc.
I will send details if you want them,
Regards,
John

He was a slate quarryman and we suspect he may have worked in the
Glyn
Ceiriog quarries around 1890. Does anyone have access to the 1891 census
which may give us his location at that time? He subsequently married
Eleanor
Elizabeth KILVERT who possibly was residing with her family in the
same
region. She was previously living in the Llandrinio and Maesbrook area.
Any
help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. I sincerely hope
I am
inquiring in the correct county. My knowledge of Welsh/English counties at
that time leaves much to be desired.
