Hello everyone
Thanks to the help of a kind lister and one of their cousins, I
have discovered the baptism of my gg grandfather and his siblings, as
well as the marriage of his parents, burial of his father and 1841-1901
censuses for the family. The family is of Peter and Elizabeth (nee
Jones) Jones who married in Feb. 1832. The children were Anne, Peter,
Mary, Elizabeth, Harriet and William, my gg/grandfather, bapt. 1843 in
Chirk. Peter the father died before the 1851 census, so I don't know
where he was born, apart from "In the County of Denbigh". Someone
looked in the Chirk baptism index and couldn't find him, so I take it he
wasn't born there. My next move will be to trace his wife, Elizabeth
Jones, b. about 1806. On the 1851 census, she listed her birthplace as
Glyn, Denbigh. In 1861, she listed her birthplace as Llangollen. In
1871 and 1881 she listed her birth place as Glyn Ceiriog! I believe she
was dead by 1891. From reading the Llangollen information at GENUKI, I
have discovered that there is a Glyn Traen that is composed of the
townships of Cilcochwyn, Crogeniddon, Crogenwladus, Erwallo,
Hafodgynfor, Nantygwryd,Pennant and Talygarth in the parish of
Llangollen. So...what parish registers do I order? Do you think I
should order in the registers for Llangollen? The LDS records for
Glyntraen (I guess this is Glyn Traen?) only begin in 1830.
I'd like some thoughts on this - perhaps there is another Glyn in
Denbigh that Elizabeth Jones could have been born in? I'd like ideas on
this before I spend $5 ordering and waiting for parish records that will
be of no help. With a name like Elizabeth Jones, I'll need all the help
I can get! <grin>
Also, how is Ceiriog pronounced and what does it mean? I'd rather know
how to say it then just guess.
Thanks everyone for all the help I've received so far!
Best Wishes
Taryn Jones
