Sharon,
Liewenny is an anglicised form of Llewenni. Llewenni was a famous farming
and hunting estate near Denbigh in the Vale of Clwyd. The estate dates back
to the 8th century and owners were very prominent and powerful and they had
good connections with the royal houses. The most prominent family were the
Salusburys, of Norman origin, there from 13 century. A John Salusbury was
married to Catherine Tudor of Berain, great-granddaughter of Henry VII by
female descent. She was also a descendent of Sir Owen Tudor. (She actually
had four prominent land owning husbands and rumoured to have had three
others, hence her repute as "mother of Wales". ). The large palace of
Llewenni of this era no longer exists. Berain is still a working farm about
5 miles away. She died in 1591.
Regards,
John

Subject: [DEN] Tudors and Liewenny
Hi List,
I'm trying to find some information on an Owen ap TUDOR and his
daughter
Mary. What little information I have on them says that Owen was born
ca.
1550
in Liewenny, (where is that?) Denbighshire. His parents are listed as
Tudor
ap Robert and Jane VIELVILLE. That would make him the brother of
Catherine
of Berain. Since she was the heiress of her father, where does that
leave
Owen?
Owen's daughter Mary was born ca. 1575 somewhere in England. She
supposedly married my ancestor William TOD and they lived in Eling in
Hampshire Cty. England. Has anyone heard of these people or were they made
up
by an uscrupulous genealogist? Any information or suggestions would
be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!
