Jane,
There is a place 2 miles north of Hereford just off the A49 trunk road
called "Pipe and Lyde" so your "Pipes Lasend" could be there. Could
"Lasend"
be "Lane(s) End."? I found an entry for "Landsend" in Gloucestershire
in one
of my searches and someone suggested it could have been Lane End. Dialects
could be quite confusing to enumerators. Have you tried the other censuses
for John's entry?
Good luck,
John

Hi Listers,
I am new to the list and wonder if anyone may have some information on my
GGGrandfather, John Davies, born circa 1836 in Herefordshire area (can't
make out, looks like Pipes Lasend?), according to the 1891 census or
Towyn, N.Wales according to the 1881 census. His father was also John
Davies, birthplace unknown. Any suggestions will be greatly received.
