Nia. Thanks. I did that some time ago. The problem is that the likely Robert
Joneses in WLS and ENG were all in service, and there was no clue to parents
etc. Also, the name was so common that the indexes for BMDs in the area and
over a wider swathe of Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire threw up too many
options to check from a distance. I have been hoping instead to make contact
with other descendants on related lines, or researchers, who may be able to
help more. Thanks all the same.

www.familysearch.org you can search for him on the 1881 census. I had
a
quick look and there are two Robert Jones between the ages 13 - 16
born in
Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant.
