Hello
New to the list.
Can anyone tell me where this place is please, I have been unable to find it.
DEN. Bellros.
On the outer Liverpool 1851 index my gg-grandfather is listed as being from
DEN. BELLROS. Any Clues as to where this is ???????????
Many Thanks

If the census place is in the country of birth the usual format in
the birthplace column is:
County (usually abbreviated), Parish
However if the census place was not in the country of birth the
enumerator was instructed to write just the country of birth.
Liverpool is in England and so one would expect to see just 'Wales'
in the birthplace column in this case.
DEN signifies the county of Denbigh (or Denbighshire).
It seems that BELLROS is a mangled form of the actual parish name and
is probably the enumerator's attempt at spelling an unfamiliar name
given verbally. There is no easily identifiable place-name or parish
in Denbighshire which resembles BELLROS. Are you absolutely sure of
the spelling?
It might prove easier to find his birthplace from his birth
certificate if he was born after June 1837. Civil registration of
births, marriages and deaths began then.
You are more likely to get a reply by posting on the busier CLWYD
list and by using an informative subject line.
