After uncovering a few more details about my grandmothers family line, I thought it might
be prudent to see if I could obtain any details regarding locations of the Children's
Homes around Ruthin and Mold, as my grandmother Mary Fanny Jones and her sisters and
brothers, we know, were packed off into a home at some time. This is likely to have been
after their father John Jones was killed in a roofing accident around 1914, hence his
widow, Margaret Jones (nee Roberts) would have been unable to maintain the home on her
own. This is when we believe that Luther Gunning took in Margaret and we lost track of the
children of the family, including our lost relative Winifred Jones( my Great Aunt? ).

As you may note no Winifred or Mary are shown which in Mary's case we know is correct,
however I would like to ask for a lookup for the missing Winifred which would be post
1901, and previous to John Jones untimely death in or around 1914
We do know the family materialised for the marriage of my grandmother , Mary Fanny Jones
to Samuel Warburton,in 1922 as Mary was shown as living at 26 LongRow,Leeswood at this
time. We know she worked at a hotel, boarding house or Inn, but not much more than that.
As I pointed out in previous posts , we can pick up one of her sisters back in 1949 , as
my father visited Maggie Gittins(by then) in Glanrafon Road in Mold , for the funeral of
Mary's brother , John Huw...who we are now pretty certain was born in 1900, and we
think may have worked as a groom at Leeswood Hall with his father John
Jones for a time.
As a final note I'd like to ask if it is VERY unusual for someone to forget how
old they are by the time they get married ( 20 ) , as in my Grandmothers case? We do
know she did try to apply for her pension 4 years too early and had to acquire a new birth
certificate to clarify her age, whereupon she found she was 4 years younger than she
thought she was!!!
With dates not adding up exactly, its proving very difficult indeed to trust the
Census, the General Register Office or indeed any certificate we receive!!!!! Which makes
the idea of proving things for certain a joke????? Or am I too cynical??
Yours Brian Warburton.
