hi again shelagh.
i have a few dates on hand, but mostly in regards to my own family line, re:
robert jnr.firstly however, there is certain tradition that occured directly
from this particular ancestor, a strong man of princible, robert jnr middle
name is emlyn, and being the first born son ( i.e. "head" of the family re:
old westminster law) he installed the 'emlyn' factor as a tradition for
every eldest son ( direct line of desendacy). as such, grand dad was
christened edward "emlyn" roberts, dad = edward "emlyn" roberts (jnr)
d.o.b
16-6-26)(otherwise known as emrys) , me, i'm clifford "emlyn" roberts
(d.o.b. 10-8-59), and my eldest son ( now approaching 21 ) is dale "emlyn"
roberts ( d.o.b. 3-8-83) i have 6 other children, 2 sons biologicaly, and 3
stepdaugthers and a step son . ages range dale =20, luke 18, scott = 16,
amanda =18, jessica=16, natasha = 12, cody =7.
edward emlyn roberts jnr was born C.1898, a WW1 veteran he died tragically
in a coal mine cave in during 1933, dad was born 16-6-26 in "hollywell"
angelsea??? i think?, passed away 30-10-82 in melbourne australia. ( there
is a grave site in Llangollen which bares some history, Both granddad (
edward (snr)) and grandma 'alice' (nee thomas) are buried there, there is
also a memorial to dad, i arranged this shortly after his passing, but never
actually visited the site ( for obvious reasons) untill 1999. the dates
certainly may help you in further research.
here's the best bit of family social history i have come across to date: at
the death of robert owen roberts, there resulted in a legal battle in
regards to his dying wise. g.g.grand dad ( also your hubby's direct
ancester ) wished to be buried in a grave (church??) yard beside his
deceased daughter. the daughter ( sorry i dont know her name yet, possibly
mary, or the other daughter i dont know as yet) had married a catholic and
change faith. the local priest decreed that g,g.granddad was "unfit" to be
buried in such a holy place and recommended he be buried in a nearby
"boothill type area" reserved for pawpers, unclaimed nobodies, and bodies
which washed up on the beach from time to time. robert emlyn roberts ( and
his brothers ) naturally became somewhat irate and sought legal advice. the
case was taken up by a young lawyer who ( although born in manchester ) had
lived in nth wales since about 8 months age. the eventual outcome was
g.g.granddad was buried where he wished, and the lawyer shot to legal, then
political stardom. in other words if this case never eventuated, then David
Lloyd George may never have lead england as Prime Minister during WW1.
maybe the world as we know it would be so very different if it wasnt for
roberts men of princible"
a nice thought, dont you think??
hope this assists, if you visit llangollen or area there are surviving
"roberts's" still residing there.
cheers, and best regards..
cliff

Hi Cliff
Thanks for your reply. It is actually my husband's side of the family
tree that has the connection with the ROBERTS.
Do you have any dates or birth places for the information you have given
me?
I look forward to hearing from you again.
Shelagh
