I believe this is the family of my JOHN WILLIAMS, b. 1822 Llanddulas--d.
1879 lost at sea; he became a Master Mariner and in 1851 was living with
wife Mary (Jones of Llanfyllin) and sister Elizabeth in Liverpool. His
ships were owned by James Fisher of Barrow in Furness, England. He later
moved his family to Amlwch, Anglesey, after the death of his first wife,
Mary Jones; his second wife was a Mary Griffith of Amlwch. His children
were named Mary Jane, James, John G., William, and Thomas R.Williams.
Does anyone connect?
1841 Census, Tai'n y Llan, Llanddulas:
Mary Williams, 45
Jane Williams, 15, miliner's (sic) ass (i.e. assistant)
Mary Williams, 13
Elizabeth Williams, 6
William Williams, 3
(All born in county)
[father John Williams is believed to have been a mariner at sea]
The baptisms of the other children in this family read as follows:
May 22nd 1825: Jane, daughter of John and Mary Williams of Tyn (sic) y
Wal,Labourer [he might have later gone to sea]
June 8th 1830: Mary, daughter of John and Mary Williams, Llan (i.e.
Llanddulas), Labourer
1851 Census Llanddulas, Tai'n y Wall
John Williams, Head, Mar, 55, Grocer, born Abergele
Mary Williams, Wife, 54, born Abergele
Mary Williams, Daur, U, 22, Grocer's Assistant, born Abergele
Williams Williams, Son, U, 13, Scholar, born Abergele
The ages all tie up to the birthplace of their son (John Williams master
mariner, b. 1822 Llanddulas) )and I wonder whether Abergele is given as
the birthplace because Llanddulas is near Abergele, but it seems a bit
odd.
1861 Census records for Llanddulas missing
1871 Census Llanddulas, Moranedd
John Williams, Head, Mar, 75, Retired grocer, born Abergele
Mary Williams, Wife, Mar, 63 (a mistake?) born Denbighshire, St George's
(It seems from the census that St George's is the next parish so maybe
that is where they were married.)
I can't find them in 1881 so they may be dead by then.
