Hello Gill,
I have tried to email you off list but have been unsuccessful. We really
appreciate your offer to help. Since we know almost nothing about your
wonderful country, we can use a lot of help. We expect to be in the Holt
vicinity overnight, so we will need to book a hotel room. Since we are
not driving, do you have any suggestions for lodging - in either Holt or
Wrexham? Our itinerary is still being developed, so we don't know the
exact schedule yet. How does July compare to mid-September in Wales?
Tentatively, the dates would be July 6/7 or Sept. 19/20/21.
Our main interest in coming to Holt is to see where the Jackson
ancestors were born and lived, the church they attended (probably
Catholic), etc.
Perhaps you could help right now with one of the "mysteries." In the
1871 census, Joseph Jackson's birthplace is listed as Farndon. In the
1881 census, it is listed as King's Marsh. Are these names
interchangeable? Is one a part of the other? I see Farndon on a map,
across the river from Holt but I don't see King's Marsh.
As for the Irish in Wales, I know that there were many in the mid to
late 1800s. John Jackson, son of Joseph, married an Irish woman,
Catherine Connaughton. There were quite a few Connaughtons in Wrexham
Regis in 1881. Another question, what is the difference between Wrexham
Regis and Wrexham Abbot?
Since Holyhead is so connected to Dublin, I would imagine that there
would be an Irish presence in Holyhead.
Thanks again.
Jackie
Hello Jackie
If I can help in any way please let me know
I live near Wrexham and not too far from Holt
If I can help with directions or accomodation etc please let me know
If I could be sure that I was around Wales when you arrive I would be very
willing to meet you off the train and take you over to Wrexham
Holt is a bit more out of the way but not too far from Wrexham
If you need any advice on where people or places are I will do all I can to
help
I only said that about Holyhead as there are more Irish accents around than
Welsh ones sometimes and lovely they are too
I go to Ireland alot being part Irish. I love the place and the people
Anyway If I can help please shout

Gill
>Gill,
>Thank you for the education about Holyhead and for your offer to help. I
>did not know that Holyhead was in Wales! But, that is great because
>Wales is our destination for about three days. We are trying to decide
>whether to go in July or in September.

>We live in Florida, USA. so we are used to hearing many different
>accents (since most of the people in Florida came from many different
>states and countries). We are planning to be in Wales for two to three
>days. Since we have such a short time and will not have an auto, we will
>probably concentrate on the Wrexham/Holt vicinity.
