Dear Ian, thank you for the information. Is pudler his occupation? I
have
never heard of that one or is it a place?
"Puddling" or "pudling" was the process of converting cast iron
into
wrought iron by subjecting it to intense heat and frequent stirring in a
reverberatory furnace in the presence of oxidizing substances, by which
it is freed from a portion of its carbon and other impurities. A
"Puddler" or "Pudler" was the person who carried out this process.
There
were several ironworks operating in this part of the Dee Valley at that
time.
I can only say the will gives the 22nd 1822 as her birth. I was under
the impression that the register was at
the CRO is it on fiche or CD?
Do you mean GRO (General Register Office)? The system of Birth, Marriage
and Death certificates only began in 1837, so there is no birth
certificate for Margaret :-( . Before 1837 the only records available
would be the Baptism, Marriage and Burial entries in the local Parish
Registers. At the time, Newbridge was in the township of Cefn Bychan in
the parish of Ruabon.
The baptism entry I gave you was from the transcription of the Ruabon
Parish Register by the Clwyd Family History Society (these can be
purchased as booklets or microfiche from
http://www.clwydfhs.org.uk/).
There were no other entries which matched 'Margaret Powell' daughter of
'William' in the 'Newbridge' area.
