Dear Listers,
I am trying to discover more about my Welsh ancestor Hugh HUGHES, a tailor
and his wife Dinah [sic] (she was born in 1779 in the Isle of Wight).. Hugh
died probably between 1846 and 1851 and lived in Denbighshire and possibly
Cheshire. He was alive in 1846 when his son married in Bangor parish
church [Wrexham Registration District]:
25 June 1846. John HUGHES of full age, bachelor, Tailor, Parish of St.
Oswald's, Chester. Father Hugh HUGHES, Tailor TO Margaret EDWARDS of full
age, spinster of Eyton. Father Joseph EDWARDS, Blacksmith. Witnesses Walter
JONES and Sarah POYNTON
Hughes son John was born in Marchwiel, Denbighshire in about 1819/20 as
shown in the 1851 census for Eyton, where he is living with his widowed
mother .
1851 Eyton (9 Eyton) [HO109_2502_462, p3]
John HUGHES, Head, M, 31, Taylor, Marchwiel, Denbighshire
Margaret HUGHES, Wife, M, 29, ---, Eyton, Denbighshire
Walter HUGHES, Son, -, 2, ---, Eyton, Denbighshire
Charlotte HUGHES, Daughter, -, 8 mos ---, Eyton, Denbighshire
Dinah HUGHES, Mother, Wid, 72, Annuitant, Isle of Wite [sic]
Unfortunately neither Denbigh or Cheshire 1841 census has yet been covered
by British Origins website. Is there anyone out there who has access to the
1841 census for Denbighshire or Marchwiel parish records and could see if
Hugh Hughes and his wife Dinah are identifiable?
If anyone knows anything about this family (or that of Joseph EDWARDS,
blacksmith, I would be delighted to hear from them.
Thank-you
