Hello.
Is anyone aware of an illustration or any reference to the "Red Cow" pub at
Penybryn, Wrexham? Was it there in 1851 and who were the occupants then? Did
it have a street number- "11" has been suggested. Any replies would be
greatly appreciated, Bill.
Hi Bill,
I took a guess at the Red Cow as in the Wrexham Directory of 1886 in
gives under 'Beersellers': "Jones, William: Red Cow, 11 Pen-y-bryn"
However, the Red Cow is *listed* on many web sites as still being there
today at 23 Pen Y Bryn!
Did they rebuild it nearby or, more likely, the street was renumbered
sometime in the past.
Sadly the same search will show you a planning permission appeal (dated
April 2005) to re-develop the "former Red Cow Public House and car park"
in Penybryn with "residential apartments" :-( . So if you want a
photograph, someone needs to get there soon!
