Does this ring any bells with anyone? I have been going through notes of
conversations I had with elderly relatives in the 1980's to see if I can fit
them in to anything I've found since, and sometimes descriptions and
connections are very vague. Both relatives have been dead for many years by
now.
My great aunt Ethel Lloyd Owen (born 1905) remembered staying overnight with
Modryb Ann in Rhuthun. She either lived at or kept a shop (or both) at Elton
House. This might have been a shoe shop. I am not clear if this was when my
aunt was a child or a young adult. My aunt was not clear about which side of
the family Modryb Ann was related.
Her second cousin Griffith Jones (born 1899) mentioned his aunt, Ann Jones
of Trawsfynydd who married a Mr Roberts and then, when widowed, a Mr Hughes.
One of the two, possibly the first, came from the Corwen area and then
farmed at Penrhengoed, Llanfwrog. Three children were born to one of the
marriages (not clear which), a son who died as a baby and two daughters
(Kate Ann and Dilys), one of whom died during the Second World War. My
impression was that Ann stayed in the Rhuthun area all her life. He also
remembered that the Lloyd Owen children, especially the boys, went on
holiday to Modryb Ann in Rhuthun but I had the impression this was on a farm
rather than in a shop. This might have been during the First World War or
just before.
I am trying to work out if both were referring to the same Ann and also to
find out more about them and their families.
Any clues would be very much welcomed.
