Your question isnt dumb at all!
You need to look at the Parish records for that area either in the local
record office, by look ups on list or from the many transcribed records
carried out by CFHS. Further back than those records are the Bishops
transcripts, usually found at the NLW.

I know this will sound dumb to most of the members of this site, but what
do you do when your search goes back past 1837, how can you look up
certificates ect on line.
All my mothers family look like they came from Abergele and surrounding
area's but i live a long way from Wales, so i am at a loss how to conduct
this search, is a matter of getting of my backside and coming to Wales for
the answeres
